M.10.E
Uhhhhh wtf. Congrats to Mekari and maybe Senat, for making the team I guess. Edited August 28, 2019 by M.10.E
DreamKid
Kind of out of the blue. He is in a contract year, and I guess the emergence of Mekari made him somewhat expendable. Greg Senat just became a very important figure on this team. We need him to show backup LT quality play, because I don't want Hurst anywhere near the blindside. coordinator0
Wow, that's pretty surprising. I'm not opposed though. Eluemunor never struck me as anything more than a decent backup, him starting at left guard was giving me some concerns. Not that the replacement will inspire much more confidence of course. M.10.E
Powers, Bozeman or other player not named James Hurst for LG 2020
drd23
Probably best to wait and see what we got for him before I decide whether I like this or not I still didn't trust him to be a starter at Guard full time (and apparently EDC didn't either), but his play at LT at times last year was somewhat impressive

Our backup LT situation is super sketchy right now. Hurst is passable at RT with Yanda and our TEs bailing him out. At LT he's worse than Eluemanor was at LG though. I'm also curious what level of compensation we're looking at.

wackywabbit
Eluemenor was a player they cut mid-season and then kept on the PS before bringing him back. He wasn't valued that much. Also not to write it off, but backup LT is a problem that was much bigger with Flacco at QB. Edited August 28, 2019 by wackywabbit

When he came back to the active Roster in 2018 he established himself as the backup LT, and was given every opportunity to nail down the LG position this Preseason- despite showing up out of shape. He carried some weight in the teams' eyes(pun intended).

Lamar's versatility allows you to circumnavigate a large degree of dependence on 'Pocket Protection'. That doesn't mean you don't need a competent option for the spot though, or that Lamar shouldn't be provided the same level of pass pro we were able to offer Flacco. Extra pocket time means the defense has to cover that much longer. And after the pocket breaks down- Lamar can extend the play even longer. So I agree it isn't as big of a problem with Jackson under center, but it will certainly cost us.
AngusMcFife
I still think this means they are going to trade for a G or claim one off waivers after the cuts.

diamondbull424
This is good. I liked JE the least out of our backup options. Just seemed lazy and not into the game. Never felt like a Raven. I like all the other young guys better, including Senat. I’d rather we work Senat as our swing tackle and let Hurst focus on just being the starting OG. I know it’s two years removed but he delivered the best LG play we’ve had the past few seasons when he transitioned there and had the entire offseason to focus on it. Let him just be a specialist, continue to bulk up to handle interior strength and then go from there.
coordinator0
I wouldn't mind seeing Hurst traded too. Rolling with a starting group of Stanley/Bozeman/Skura/Yanda/Brown with Powers, Mekari, and Senat in reserve is fine. Not much experience with the backup group, but I'm more concerned about talent and on-field yields. Eight offensive linemen is plenty for the active roster. Probably won't happen though. On a related note, trading Eluemunor for yet another 2020 (probably) draft pick makes keeping Bethel and losing the compensatory pick his signing negated a little easier. I think the Ravens are looking at 11 selections right now assuming everything works out with compensatory rules for the 3rd and 4th rounders.
