I haven't gotten to see him play yet.  What I've read on him sounds very Zunino-esque.  Solid (not great) defensive catcher with a good arm.  Lots of power potential in the bat, with a questionable hit tool.  He's also a big boy, so you have to worry about him outgrowing the position as well.

Then it just comes down to the power.  If it shows up, you have Altuve-light.  If it doesn't, you have Ronald Torreyes.

Most project him at around average to slightly below average power.  He may never hit 20+ HR, but he's a solid bet for 10+.  Has some of the best bat speed in college baseball right now.  Madrigal is also faster and a better defender than those two.

Agreed on speed, at least for Torreyes.  Altuve is no slouch there, but Madrigal may have him by a nose.  Flip it for the defense.  Torreyes was in the same (plays 2B but could maybe play SS as a professional) area that Madrigal is now.  Altuve is the worst defensively of the 3 by a fair bit.

I'm a Madrigal fan, btw.  I've just seen too many people claiming that he's Altuve 2.0, and I just don't think that's accurate.

I saw Torreyes come up through Low A in Dayton when he was in the Reds system, and no one here ever thought of him as a possible SS.  He wasn't even that highly regarded a 2B defensively (granted he was only 18 at the time).

Nobody should ever call anyone the next anyone if they are being compared to a MVP caliber talent.  You can't put an 80 hit tool on any amateur, and Altuve is an 80 hit tool.

Multiple FSL scouts said this during his first year in the Cubs org as a 19 year old in High A ball.  I think Madrigal certainly is the better defender, but it's not as big of a gap as it may appear.

And I agree with you wholeheartedly on the 2nd part.  But yet I'm still seeing and hearing it.

The Angels northeast area scout put an 8 on Trout's hit tool and nailed it.

Has anybody posted a list of their top IFAs yet?  I know we've seen blurbs about a guy here or there (Blue Jays signing the top guy again), but I don't think I've seen a list.  Kiley put out his top 5 hitters and top 5 pitchers in his chat a few days ago and it got me curious.  For those wondering, he said the following:

Bats:

1. Diego Cartaya, C - Linked to Dodgers

2. Noelvi Marte, SS - Linked to Mariners

3.  Marco Luciano, SS - Giants

4.  Orelvis Martinez, SS - Blue Jays (Thought by BA and a few others I've seen as the top player and expected to get $3ish million)

5.  Alexeis Azuaje, SS - No linked team that I saw

Arms:

1.  Osiel Rodriguez, RHP - Cuba - No linked team that I saw

2.  Richard Gallardo, RHP - Linked to Cubs

3.  Sandy Gaston, RHP - Cuba - No linked team that I saw

4.  Abraham Calzadilla, RHP - Linked to Dbacks

5.  Starlyn Castillo, RHP - Linked to Phillies

Forgot to ask, but where is everyone looking for college baseball scores and box scores?  D1baseball was my previous go-to, but they have a damn paywall for even their scoreboard this year, much to my chagrin.

I just use baseball cube for individual player stats otherwise I go directly to the school websites

That's what I've been doing, but it takes way longer than having a big scoreboard for all the games.  SECsports.com is good for the SEC teams, at least.

I'm pretty pissed about the D1Baseball pay wall for scores too, at least their stats section is free (for now >:()

I'll follow individual players more than teams (love me some draft), so I link to specific team schedules and just have a folder in my favorite links:

JJ Schwarz has gotten off to a nice start after a less than expected sophomore and junior years.  Playing both C still and some 1B, but he's hitting .405/.489/.865 with 4 HR already.  If a team can think he can at least be a passable defensive catcher, that bat might play.
