College Football and NFL Draft Discussion

Grant Delpit is an elite cover safety. I know he missed some tackles this season, but the dude is a stud in coverage. He can blanket TEs and even cover traditional WRs in roll down man-man situations. Plus he has elite ball skills, size, and speed. His breaks on the ball for his size is unreal.

If Delpit were there in the 2nd, you have to take him. Plus us moving to more of a man scheme means less space tackling for the DB’s, theoretically.

If that's his guy, that's his guy. None of us know for sure on any of these guys

With what he can do on the back end, the elite instincts and ball hawking. I could stomach his supposed tackling issues in a heart beat....

What are yall smokin on man ..

Delpit is fun to watch because he's an urgent athlete with energy and all his movements seem to be purposeful and forceful.

However, I don't know what yall were watchin but he's cheeks in coverage too and doesn't range well or make sound coverage decisions as cover safety.

A plus leader with Box short area coverage ability when he guesses right, but he often doesn't.

He got smoked on the regular this year and last in coverage when asked to cover routes outside of 5-7 yards.

It's because of his amazing urgent movement and competitive fire that when he does guess right and make a play it's to highlight reel effect.

He's not FS. So, he's a SS with box run support and angles deficiencies. And Tight End coverage ability but gets exposed when asked to cover anything else.

I love the leadership... I love the urgency... the competitive fire is off the charts... the short area coverage ability against Tight Ends is great.. all other decision making and feel for pass coverage and run support is buttcheeks.

Or jedrick willis or whoever is the best or 2nd best lt?

Trading a 2nd round pick up for even Jedrick Wills who is my favorite player is still a little wild.

Did you mean trading our 2nd, 3rd round pick or a 3rd? Then, sure.

Our 2nd 3rd would take us to 8 or 9 at best wouldn't it? They dont go far at thebtop of the draft

I be more concerned on why Delpit absolutely stopped wanting to tackle. Dude was better 2 seasons ago. Why the drop off?

The same could said about Greedy Williams, tbh, maybe he could have been preserving himself knowing he was goingto declare....

From what I remember Greedy was always a lazy tackler. Delpit in ‘18 was prolly the best safety in the nation/defensive back. Last he wanted even tho he won the Thorpe, which he had no reason to win over Okaduh. ‘19 Delpit was a different player and wasn’t the best defensive back on his team imo

I am not a fan of Wirfs but if they walked away with him and Jackson (stuff I have read said he might be the best ZBS tackle in the draft) I would be happy. Bit would help Jackson and Conklin and Wirfs would dominate

I wouldn’t be surprised to see teams wanting to trade out of this draft after the second round this year. Listening to the radio today and hearing them talk about being unsure about medicals and not having a chance to work guys out, that some front offices might not feel comfortable making some picks. If you draft a dude in the third or fourth round who won’t get medically cleared, it could cost you your job as a GM or in a scouting department. We might see some major whiffs and some major steals from this draft. Heck, it could get even crazier if they cancel next college football season and a lot of guys plan to enter supplement draft

@Mind Character whats your beef with Jeremy Chinn?

Smooth, high quartile timed athlete.

Ultimately, I'm not a fan of Safeties that don't exhibit instinctual play, one's that have a slow mental trigger, and/or shy away from physicality.

He doesn't play with the dog in 'em or internal fire that I think all SS require (FS as well). I'm cool with a Safety not having that type of outward fire play personality as long as the Safety is instinctual.

I don't see Chinn as having those critical play traits from the outside looking in.

He's a lot like Obi Melifonwu. Body beautiful, high quartile athlete, big potential, and play trait deficiencies.

I have no clue what type of person or competitor Chinn is b/c it doesn't come through in his play on the field, but maybe in interviews and scouting works he's a real dude. In that event, maybe it makes sense to bet on the plus athletic ability later in the draft.

Instinctual, Grit, Toughness, Urgent Athlete, Fluid Mover, Quick Processor & Mental Trigger, and Ability to Consistently Get Guys on the Ground.

Antoine Winfield Jr. has all those abilities. Jeremy Chinn lacks many.

Me, neither.

But this could work very well for us by 2021.

But do we really take a guard in the top 10???

that just sounds like overreaching to me.  He wouldn’t move over to tackle for at least 3 years with Conklins deals.
