further proving that AAV is a dumb way to look at contracts.

Id say this is a pretty fair deal for both sides.

Yeah I was mostly joking because you'll see somebody break down a deal for one of their guys and include the current years signed. Then when they want to clown on a rival for how much they signed for they'll omit those last two years on the current deal. It's a game all of it's a game.

This is great news for the NFC West.

Agreed. The NFC West has enjoyed the benevolent rule of the Rams and Goff the past two years. We'll get to see many, many more years of it. Thank you, Snead, Demoff, and McVay.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Florio.

I was wondering how much this was a reaction to Florio's comments. As in, Goff heard about it and put the pressure on the Rams to make this deal early. Maybe Goff's people told him to spread the rumor to start the negotiations, which would be some next level negotiating if that's what happened.

Mike Florio has always made speculation, rumors or things like that just to have views in his articles..I almost never read his articles now since he is often way off in his rumors and he is always looking for stories or controversy when there is no story in that!

NFC West looking like the premier QB division assuming both Jimmy G and Murray pan out.

Same in the East if Jones/Haskin pan out. North has 4 decentish or better QBs. South has 3.5 good QBs.

The NFC is so loaded. It sucks.

sorry Cowboys fans

That Gurley contract is an albatross. Such a terrible contract.

The Goff one isnt so bad. Wentz got $32m that maxes at $35m w/incentives (iirc). Goff got $33.5m. That slots Dak right there with them in the $32-35m/yr range.

Because no matter how much people will use the "Eye Test" => Dak's regular season resume is the best/most accomplished.

Dak at 32-35 would be a travesty.

Definitive Guide to Defending Dak to the Haters

Step 1 - Show that he is pretty good:

Daks league-wide rankings in 2016-18, 32 games played minimum

  • 8th in passer rating

  • 11th in ANY/A

  • 6th in CMP%

  • 5th in INTs

  • 7th in combined TDs

  • 2nd in wins

  • 1st in GWD

 PFR

Step 2 - Refute "the best supporting cast ever" argument:

  1. Starting Falcons '17 through 2018 the pressure rate on Dak DOUBLED

  2. F.O. ranked us the #28 worst pass blocking OL in 2018

  3. PFF ranked us #22 pass blocking OL in 2018, but the 27th worst at giving up sacks/pressures

  4. NFL.com rated our WR's DEAD LAST at getting open in 2018, excluding Amari Cooper

  5. Zeke was #22 in facing a stacked box (25% of the time). The notion that "Dak has it easy because defenses focus on Zeke" is verifiable false.

Step 3 - Show how the above affected him:

Source 1

Source 2

Step 4 - If they bring up Romo:

Prescott’s stats 2016-18: 96 passer rating, 66.1% completion percentage, 67 passing touchdowns, 7.52 adjusted yards per attempt

Tony Romo’s stats 2010-12: 95.7 passer rating, 66.4% completion percentage, 70 passing touchdowns, 7.57 adjusted yards per attempt

Source

Step 5 - Accolades:

  • Rookie of the Year (2016)

  • 32-16 regular season record

  • 1-2 playoff record

  • Been to Divisional Round twice

  • 2 NFC East titles

  • 2-Time Pro Bowler

  • First player in NFL history with 20+ passing TDs & 5+ rushing TDs in each of his first 3 seasons

  • 7th most wins all time for a 3rd year QB

  • 5th most TDs all time for a 3rd year QB

  • Highest passer rating when tied in the 4th/overtime in the past 25 years

  • Most game winning drives since entering the league on the 8th fewest opportunities

Step 6 - the Meme:

Explain that you know he isnt worth $40m/yr. Thats not the point. The point is that he is a franchise QB and deserves a contract that pays him as such.

That's a really bad argument. You have to go back to their rookie years for your argument to have legs. Goff and Wentz improved immensely and blew by Dak after that year. It's quite clear Dak isn't in the same tier as either right now.

Thats where you are wrong. The last 13 games both Wentz and Dak played are 95-100% exactly the same statistically. Dak had more wins, Wentz had more fumbles, but across the passing stats they are identical.

13 is significant because thats how many games Wentz played and how many Dak played with Cooper.

Dak was better/equal to Wentz the first 8 games of 2017. The last 13 games of 2018. There is 1 very specific stretch were Dak was significantly worse than both Goff/Wentz. Falcons '17 - start of 2018. The other ~40ish games Dak has been =/> both Wentz and Goff. Spread across all 3 years.
