I think Parker was drafted to be the future RT with Miller at LT, but Parker just isn’t good enough.

I think they knew the reached for Miller but knew worst case he's be a good RT. Parker slipping to the 3rd they felt had upside and insurance if Miller moved to RT. Brown makes it all moot. Even though Brown makes LT money I'm good with him on the right side destroying people and can cover LT if needed. Wirfs was a tempting pick knowing all 3 WR's were there and having ammo to trade up. Smart not to, but he at Guard and replacing Miller if too expensive after 5th year option is some serious Oline investment. I think of Willie Roaf when it comes to Wirfs. Talent you just don't pass on. I'm happy overall but to pass on a talent like Wirfs no wonder TB was trying to move up. He was BPA but not a need. Miller/Parker was a need and not BPA.  LOL

I think Brown would have been the Parker pick had we kept Tice and thought power. We took more athletic ZBS for Lynch and Cable. Glad they bulked up since then.

Correct you did not say it had to be a RT.

were you referring to this year or ‘18 though?  I assumed you meant this year (‘20 draft).  With sharpe already a solid backup it doesn’t make any sense to draft another RT.  But if you meant ‘18 i get what your saying.

Orlando Brown or Chukwuma Okorafor were far better picks for filling the RT spot.  I think Parker was drafted to be the future RT with Miller at LT, but Parker just isn’t good enough.

i was criticizing the parker pick because the had just selected a LT in the first round (causing them to move Penn to right where he failed and got hurt) and then drafted a guy who only played left tackle in the 3rd hoping he could transition to RT and become a starter

2018 was a very frustrating draft.  Most drafts with RM were frustrating though.  The only one that made since was 2014 and the draft fell perfectly for us.

Definitely. We should've taken Orlando Brown over Brandon Parker in the 3rd.

Reggie McKenzie and Cable preferred the taller, athletic OTs (and often liked doubling up on a position in the draft).  From ‘12 to ‘18 he drafted these OTs:

‘10: Jared Veldeer, 3rd, (6’8 312) + Bruce Campbell, 4th (6’6.5 314) Note: Tom Cable is HC

Reggie is GM:

‘13: Menelick Watson, 2nd (6’5 310)

‘15: Anthony Morris, 7th (6’7 303)

’17: David Sharpe, 4th (6’6 343) + Jylen Ware, 7th (6’7 317)

Orlando Brown Jr really didn’t fit the mold of both RM and Cable.  That’s probably why they went Parker, he “looked” like their type of OT.

Also, we had just drafted Sharpe the year before but we soured on him fast, then got him back.  I think it really isn’t a matter of we took the wrong “RT” as much as we really reached and didn’t even need another OT that early.  There were other wholes that needed to be filled and some good players available.  We even traded up for Parker at the top of the third.... which makes it hurt even more.

”* Traded the No. 75 pick, a fifth-round pick (No. 152, obtained from Cardinals) and a sixth-round pick (No. 212) to Ravens for the No. 65 pick, obtained from Bills (drafted OT Brandon Parker).”

I really liked Brown but he ran a 5.8 40.  I have said it a few times and Brown ended up being the exceptio but when guys run slower than a 5.4 teams generaly stay away because the bust rate is huge.  If Brown would have ran in the 5.3s he would have been a 1st round pick.  He was great on tape but horrible at the combine.  Everything he did was in slow motion and only had 14 reps on the bench.  For me that would have told me he has bad work habits so I would have made my decision based upon interviews and how willing I thought he would be to put in the work to get better.  He made Andre Smith look like he was in good shape.  One of those situations where we should have trusted the game tape.  Mayock probably would have taken him in the 3rd instead of Parker.  Especially if they thought Miller was a LT.

Yeah it’s hard to be made we didn’t draft Orlando Brown because his workouts across the board were horrid.... he hit every threshold for not being able to play in the NFL... the 225reps and 40 (even 10 and 20) were so bad you can’t get mad we passed on him.  He went from a late first rounder to the late third and his dads old team finally took him... if they didn’t how much further would have slide? I imagine he got removed from a ton of draft boards.  Plus no matter how good he’s played I don’t think he’d have even stayed on the roster one training camp for a zone blocking team like us.

i always thought we shouldn’t have doubled dipped at OT and gone another position like Justin Reid/Ronnie Harrison S or Jerome Baker OLB or even RB Royce Freeeman or DE Sam Hubbard

Beyond the not drafting Brown I was angry we switched to a ZBS.  We had spent so much time and money on our Oline.  I understand the new coach situation but for decades our team would not only change coaches to often but we would always change to coaches that had completely different scheme philosophy so we never had the proper personnel.  I would say close to half our draft busts were a direct result of scheme change.  The other half was just complete incompetence.

Same.  Anyway, I'm sure we threw out an offer that was essentially just a shot in the dark.  We don't have the cap to provide him with anything over the top.  Maybe a two year contract that's loaded for the season after the upcoming one.  Either way, if he were to come in, it would be to start opposite of Crosby.  That would leave Ferrell and Nassib as our backups (two awesome backups IMO).  But I don't see him coming to Vegas.
