Jonathan Allen's knee injury

Gruden said in his presser he's day to day.  The team released that he's week to week, so who knows at this point.  We should have more updates as the week goes on.

I hope he gets a second opinion.

30 yards rushing allowed with him, 93 yards rushing allowed without him.

Payne isn’t a 3-technique end and moving him there to put Settle in his place was silly. That changed the entire performance of the defense. Payne makes life a living hell for offenses when he’s in the middle of the field.

Payne is athletic enough to play any technique from a DT and he’s strong enough to play 0-technique.

It wasn’t silly, it was their only and best option.

Caleb Brantley also hurt his ankle in the game so the Redskins finished the game with just 3 healthy DL, which explains a whole he’ll of a lot as to why the D was gashed so much in the second half.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Allen’s specific injury is

a sprained MCL and is having an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injury.

Tim Settle saw more playing time with Allen out of the lineup. Caleb Brantley also went down with an ankle injury, which left Washington with just three defensive linemen to close out the game.

So why didn't he have the same effect as Allen did at that position? Payne needs to stay at DT plain and simple. The proof showed when Allen left the game. It's really no argument to be made. We all saw what happen when Payne was used at Allen's positon.  He was ineffective.

The depth we have beyond the starters at DE really concerns me.  They need rotational DE's to keep everyone fresh, and I don't see legitimate options there.

Because 1) Allen is a better player. 2) I’ve said it 10 times that when one of them isn’t in the game they double team the other one - usually Allen. So, when they’re in the game together they can’t double both of them. W/o Allen in the game they then double teamed Payne every play to minimize his impact. It’s really that simple when you watch the game and pay attention to what’s happening to Payne on every play when Allen isn’t next to him.

Yea Ok, I stand by what I said. Payne needs to stay at DT not DE. Agree to Disagree.
