You sweet summer children.

You can take a player off the Cougs, but you cannot take the Coug out of a player.

and if hes this generations Tom Brady you shall be a tester like animals :P.

im not saying hes tom brady cuz its way too small a sample size but he has some good smarts and looked better then he did with our backups and dudes a good leader and some rookie qwbs get tripped up with these baited throws he didnt take their bait this game atleast.

all we need is to get rid of the joke of a rg who was a 3rd round pick out of the SEC who got absolutely worked over in AJ Cann but for some unknown reason we gave him an extension cuz outside his durability he doesnt seem to do much good.

at worse we have a career backup qb who looks to have an interest in potentially being a coach(he was offered by bama to be their 3rd string behind Tua and Hurts and made into a grad assistant but when leach offered he took that oppurtunity.

Tennessee isn't going to give Tannehill to a division rival in need of a QB. The Foles injury just improved Tennessee's opportunity to win the division, they're not going to hand over a guy who can restore that balance.

Jacksonville would be better served monitoring the situation with the Giants - if Eli plays well but NYG is losing, they're bound to go with Daniel Jones sooner rather than later. If they feel like that's going to happen, part ways with a mid round pick and reunite Eli with Coughin.

Yeah.  Exactly.  It'd be great to swing a deal for Tannehill, but the Titans aren't stupid.  They're not going to fix the division rival Jaguars problems for them.  Just 'cause the Titans had the foresight to bring in a viable "Plan B" in case Mariota manages to get injured again, or happens to struggle during the season.

Back in the offseason is when the Jaguars needed to make that move to bring in a guy who could legitimately be expected to step in and give them a chance to win.  Back when they could've made a play at someone like Tannehill, or Teddy or Tyrod...or something more "proven" than a 6th round rookie.  Instead...they just went all in on Nick Foles - who's never really played an entire season...with a tenuous at best backup plan.

I hope Minshew ends up exceeding all expectations and miraculously saves the season, even though it'd cover up for a lack of real foresight from Jaguars management...but it was always a risk to hinge the entire season on Foles staying healthy.  You don't necessarily figure he's going to break his collarbone in the first half of football of the year and miss at least half the season...but you have to figure he's likely to miss at least a couple games at some point, based on his resume to date.  Or at least, that there's a potential liability there that's higher than for teams that have established starters with a track record of playing full seasons year after year.

It's nothing new for this regime though.  They burned a draft pick on a stupid trade for Carlos Hyde in the middle of last season, because they went into the year with no viable backup plan "power back" for the centerpiece of their offense in Fournette, who has also demonstrated a propensity for getting dinged up and missing time.

Heck, they went into last season with no viable backup plan for Blake Bortles.  So when he struggled as he's shown a tendency to do in the past...the only thing they had to turn to was...Cody Kessler, which was obviously never going to work.  lol.

They just don't seem to be very good at planning for adversity.

I mean...do you even have a front office at all?

It's something called a flat organization. Which basically means BOB tells everyone what he wants to do, unless they want to get flattened by that butt chin.

He's a 6th round pick. If you think I or most Jags fans are putting our "hopes and dreams" into him then..

The Jaguars brass kinda put their hopes and dreams in him tho.  They didn't think they'd need any other backup plan apparently.

I hear you, but it’s not like the backup QB market is overflowing with cheap options for cap strapped teams.

Esp for cap strapped teams, drafting QB every other year Day 3 / UDFA and seeing what sticks is about as cost efficient as any other model for backup QB around.   It can be argued that’s the best model regardless of cap situation given gos expensive QB’s get behind their rookie deal, even backups.

The whole "cap strapped" thing, is part of the problem in the first place. They built a team to peak while a garbage QB was throwing ducks in Bortles, and it didn't work.  Still suffering some of the consequences of that, which makes them tighter to the cap than they should be.

If you're in that "win now" window like the Jaguars are right now though...it's not outrageous to go after a guy like Foles and see what happens.  He was probably the most likely option to really get 'er done.  But at the same time...you invest in a QB like that...you have to realize the guy has never played a full season.  You have to prepare.  Spend a few bucks on a backup like so many other teams have done.  Even teams with far more established, durable QBs.
