That's what statisticians call "an outlier".

Last season doesn't look toooo bad

Newton either isn't healthy or isn't comfortable.  So yes, if nothing changes, he's probably finished.  And if he can't play, then I'm not really sure what the Panthers will do.

Anyone acting like how Newton looked last night is how he's always looked is just being difficult.  But there is no point in trying to explain his past years numbers, although the proof is in the pudding with 2018: half of the year his arm was shot, but his QB rating was still the 2nd highest it has ever been because he played in a modern-ish system.  It certainly wasn't Newton's 2nd best overall season.

Regardless, I think Newton probably is done unless things change quickly.  He doesn't even try to run anymore.

Rivera is 100% fired if we miss the playoffs.  Same with Hurney.  I think Rivera knows that too ie. his press conference last night.  I don't think we would cut Newton.  In fact I feel like it would take a lot for him not to be starting 2020 unless he retired.  But we'll probably need to draft someone by 2021.

Give it' McCaffery! He has one of the best friends a declining QB can have - a ridiculous weapon who can carry both the run game and pass game. How many touches did CMC have last night?

This sucks though.  Cam Newton is easily my favorite NFL player of all-time.  I didn't get to watch prime Vick play, so to me Newton is easily the most exciting QB I have seen.  And it sucks it might end this way, if it does.  I just wish people could appreciate his talents rather than it always being a "but his stats though" thing.  Not everyone has to be a top five QB.  Not everything has to be by the book.  He was a super fun player to watch play.

But maybe that is just me being defensive as a Panthers fan, I don't know.  It is just a crappy feeling though, to know easily your franchise's best QB and biggest superstar is on the backend of his career.
