Gotham Gashslayers

OFFENSE - 2WR/2RB/TE -  (60:40 Pass:Run)

Gotham comes out off our week 1 victory with a match against Carolina.  We will run a fast paced offense and run no huddle coming off of first downs.  The aim here is to keep Carolina’s defense on its heels and on the field, gasping.  With poor DL depth, we look to limit the effectiveness of their starters in the 2nd half.

RUN GAME - Our base offense will feature 2 RBs, but with multiple looks personnel and formation wise.   Henry and Johnson are listed as starters, but along with Jacobs all 3 will see equal rotation. Wentz will be charged with pre snap reads, moving his RBs like chess pieces to create mismatches.  He can line up under center, pistol or shotgun; I Formation, split back or offset; throw one or both in motion or into the slot - we are going to allow him creativity. Working off RPO will be a staple as we want to limit their DEs aggressiveness and freeze those LBs, not allowing them to pin their ears back or shooting gaps.

PASS GAME - With this fast paced offense, Wentz is going to want to rack up first downs.  Landry is a master of moving the chains and we won’t just relegate his targets to 3rd downs.  We will hit him off slants and off play action on early downs to keep the Intimaters guessing.  With a focus on the short area surely a focus of Carolina’s d, we will use Devante Parker to keep them honest, specifically targeting him on 5 - 7 20 yd+ targets, while Hurst will look for some seam targets if we recognize zone.

DEFENSE - 34 Hybrid Nickel

With a bevy of offensive weapons, Carolina brings a potent offense to the table.  We think we have answers to those threats, and particularly look to prevent momentum shifting long scoring plays.  We will play a Press Man Cover 2 shell with 3 different looks based on offensive personnel.

Run D - We expect to see a heavy dose of Carson and Kamara on the field at the same time and will run our stated starters in this case.  I have a lot of faith our D LIne can handle themselves against Carolinas O Line in the trenches. Minkah plays up in the box and follows Kamara into the slot if motioned or lined up there.  With defensive speed to match Carolina’s weapons, we feel we can keep these 2 in front of us, preventing chunk plays. On obvious run downs, Burfict comes in for Geathers to pack the box and bring that extra nasty.

Pass D - Man outside with Rhodes on Beckham and Howard on Evans.  Rhodes famously trolled the eff out of Beckham and held him to his worst career performance a couple years ago, he’s certainly capable of limiting him here.  In 3 wide sets, Minkah comes off and Norman covers Shepherd/WR3. Cunningham covers TEs.
PASS RUSH - With the aim of keeping big plays to a minimum, we will mostly rush 4 and focus our back 7 on coverage.  Mix in some blitzes here and there.

Lancaster Werewolves

Motivation: The Intimidators will come out ready to play after taking an unexpected bye week to start the season. They are hungry and well-rested, a good combination. Also, with new ownership in town they will want to play their best to prove their worth to their new tyrannical Owner/GM.

Carolina Offensive Strategy: We’re facing a well-rounded Gotham defense and will be attacking them with a well-rounded offensive attack. We’ll be looking to start heavy with the ground game, letting Kamara hit them with both inside and outside runs. This should help to open up the passing game where we’ll be looking to spread the ball around to our many offensive weapons. We don’t plan to let Gotham key in on anything specific and keep their defense guessing. Finally we want to get a lead early to keep Gotham playing catchup.

The Passing Strategy: Gotham has a solid secondary but we like how we match up here. Evans and Beckham are the type of receivers who are going to get theirs regardless of who they’re matched up against. Willie Snead will be going deep fairly often to take the top off the defense and keep them honest. Just like we will be running early to keep the defense honest, we’ll be chucking it deep to Snead a few times early to establish the threat. As we’re spreading the ball around, we’ll make sure not to forget about Alvin Kamara as a dynamic threat out of the backfield. Our TE’s aren’t world beaters but we’ll be getting the ball to them when they’re open as well. Long story short we’ll be attacking at all levels to make sure that the defense can’t guess what we’re doing, they have to react.

The Running Strategy: Much like the rest of our offensive gameplan, we plan to keep the defense guessing by switching things up. We do think that we’ll have particular success running to the outside this week as we think we can beat them on the edge so we’ll probably have about 60-65% outside runs and 35-40% inside runs.

Carolina Defensive Strategy: We want to focus on containing Wentz’s weapons and stopping the run. We feel that our secondary matches up well against Gotham’s offensive weapons and should be able to handle that fairly easily. Against the run, we’ll some extra help in the box to keep it busy near the line. We’re more scared of the Gotham RB group than their receiving corps so we want to keep Gotham passing. Our offensive strategy is to get an early lead to keep Gotham passing rather than running. This will stop them from utilizing their strong stable of backs and instead have them rely on their depleted receiving core.

The Pass Defense Strategy: With Tyreek Hill out this week we feel pretty good about this matchup. Carson Wentz is a very good QB but Gotham’s weapons don’t overly worry us, especially because our secondary is a strength of our defense. We’ll be mostly playing man coverage. Jalen Ramsey will shadow Jarvis Landry and should be able to mostly take him out of the game. James Bradberry should be a good matchup with Devante Parker. Eddie Jackson will be playing a deep zone, playing a centerfielder role. Keanu Neal will be playing in the box, covering Kyle Rudolph. Wagner will cover the RBs out of the backfield. We aren’t sure if Gotham will run with 3 WRs but we feel good about Kevin King matching up with Geronimo Allison. If Gotham goes with 2 TEs or 2 RBs we will have King come off the field and have Christian Kirksey covering that extra TE or RB. Kwon Alexander will be patrolling the shallow middle of the field. We have a healthy rotation of EDGE rushers to attack Gotham’s OL and we think we should be able to get consistent pressure without blitzing too often.

The Run Defense Strategy: Gotham has a deep stable of RBs and even though they didn’t necessarily fully utilize all of those backs last week, we’re ready for that to change. Gotham has a decent OL but we feel that our DL is elite and should be able to hold their own well enough. Besides that we’ll have Neal playing down in the box to provide extra support against the run. We want to snuff out the run early and as has been stated before, keep them passing by having a lead so that they can’t go to their RBs.

With Maurkice Pouncey not at 100%, I feel like Lancaster is going to be able to penetrate the center of that Oline. Both teams are stacked but that Lancaster team is just too good for Gotham to overcome this week. Plus Davante Parker has been an absolute non factor so far this season I think they go nuts.

35 -20 Lancaster

They have a right tackle starting at LT and a center starting at LG.

He didn't "land" on the Raiders like he didn't have offers, they paid out the *** to get him as a valuable piece to their roster. And if they hadn't just drafted a LT in the first round the previous year I'm sure he would still be at LT. He isn't some really good RT who is untested at LT, he has proven himself to play well on either side of the OL. He is a versatile tackle.

Meh, LT is way more a premium spot than RT in the league.  The reality is the Patriots and every other NFL team didn't care to sign him as an LT at not exactly blow you away money for the position.  Your faith in him as a LT is unique in the professional football world.

He is the highest paid OL in history though? And in no way, shape, or form am I the only one who thinks he can play LT. The Pats obviously believed all the way to the Super Bowl. If Miller goes down for the Raiders, who do you think they're putting at LT?

Guy was signed as a backup by the Pat's.  Raiders obviously overpaid for a RT or I guess Miller outplayed enough in preseason to kick him to RT.  Point is, nobody wanted him at a premium position other than the Raiders who didn't think enough of their signing to give him a chance.  You can write your own narrative,  but it doesn't reflect reality.
