Drew Brees to have surgery on throwing hand, to be out around 6 weeks

Saints quarterback Drew Brees left Sunday’s game against the Rams in the first quarter and did not return.

It is highly unlikely he plays next week. The hope is he returns in two to three weeks wearing a brace. The worst-case scenario is he will require surgery and be sidelined into November.

On the Fox TV broadcast, Erin Andrews was told at the half that Brees simply “could not grip the ball”

The hope is for a sprained/jammed thumb rather than a ligament tear. But given this constellation of facts, the worry is real.

If Brees has torn the UCL in his thumb, often referred to as gamekeeper or skier’s thumb, that could mean surgery. Even with surgery, Brees could return after six to eight weeks.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees left Sunday's loss to the Los Angeles Rams with a hand injury after the team's second series and will have the issue examined by a specialist tonight in L.A.

"Yeah, I am concerned," Brees said. "I am hoping it's not too significant."

" ... I'm hoping for the best and preparing for whatever the next steps might be according to the evaluation."

Is it?  Ryan and Newton have looked terrible and Winston is Winston.  Saints have a stronger roster than all of those teams and probably the best coach.  I think they can manage.

woah sir, lets not overreact. saints aint winning without brees, that offense looked really bad. I cant speak to cams shoulder but not going to oveereact to a couple bad games for ryan.

Even with the INTs tonight, Ryan aint the problem. No one on the right side of the offensive line, and maybe the worst running game in the NFL will be the down fall because that will cause Ryan to go in gunslinger mode like tonight, and thats not always good.

Knowing Payton and NO, Taysom Hill will be starting for Brees, and Payton will have some kind of crazy gameplan to do enough to win 9ish games and take the division.

Plus I trust Quinn as much as I can throw him, and he is a big man.

So does this mean the Teddy Bridgewater experiment begins? No one wishes injury on another player but I'm assuming its the reason he resigned with the Saints? Potential Starter on a SB Contender if Brees goes down ?

Taysom Hill era is about to begin :D. Something tells me he can join the club of QB's that ends up throwing a pass to himself.

You think the Saints have a stronger roster, outside of QB, than the Panthers? I mean, full power, the Saints are a better team, but outside of QB I would say the Panthers have the strongest NFC south team.
