Not really sure where this belongs but here's where I'll put it. This kid stands out repeatedly. Looks like a great building block to me.

The interior rusher they've been looking for since Malik left. Really explosive.

He is kind of a Jackson type, good comparison. He really seems to give IOL guys fits. Way stronger in a bull rush than you'd expect while still being very quick.

I think a building block type.

4 guys who look like building blocks in one draft. A year after adding Chubb, Sutton and Lindsay. Over two years, the roster's gone from having almost no future building blocks to a fairly filled out young core, with a lot more help coming in April (four Day 2 picks on top of their 1st). Suddenly the Broncos are in an enviable spot from a roster construction standpoint.

Jones has had a terrific year, but I don’t see him as a 3 down defensive lineman.  He’s a quality interior pass rusher and is a nice piece in the rotation as a 3rd down specialist.  By no means am I saying he was a bad pick or player, but I don’t know that he turns into a legitimate building block as he seems more a specialist type (much like Demarcus Walker, who also had a nice season for Denver).  Either way both Jones/Walker give Denver good depth along the DL and interior pressure on passing downs.

Burrow: 21-27, 403 yards, 7 TDs

In the first half.

Can't remember a crazier stat line.

Burrow is an absolute stud.  Sucks he’s going to that dumpster fire that is the Cincinnati Bengals.  Will be rooting for him though.

Bud, you are preachin' to the choir. I couldn't agree more!

I really am excited about our prospects. It's been since the Ralston era that we played so many young, over performing kids.

Actually, this could be a good topic.

I’ve gone back and forth on this but now I’m not sure the fit makes sense. I love Isaiah and his traits are kind of unheard of. The question constantly asked is whether or not he can handle the physical, meat grind of traditional linebacker responsibilities. I’m starting to think the better question is why he should even if he can.

What advantages do you really get sticking him in the box half the time? In obvious passing situations he should be an asset no matter what, but he’s probably going to have a better chance at being an every-down impact player as an oversized strong safety IMO. He’s a guy I would build game plans around as a DC and use in as many roles as possible, sticking him in one spot where his speed and range are limited feels like a waste even if he’s able to do it.

He is the ultimate defensive weapon. He’s like what prime Jamie Collins was except smaller, more athletic, and better instincts. He can rush the passer, play man, stuff the run, play deep. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a player quite like him. Closest I could think of is Julian Peterson if people remember him. Peterson once played corner, safety, linebacker, and defensive end all in the same game for the 49ers. Simmons isn’t that big yet (Peterson was around 240) but his skill set makes him so valuable to a defense.

I am okay with Simmons if he is there when we pick.  He and Johnson in the middle makes sense, giving the Broncos good depth in the middle which they haven't had for a long time.  For the first pick, I am really good with OL, DL, WR (if Jeudy falls to us that would be amazing).  In the second, I'd be bullish on the best available RB, CB, and OL.

But Donald proved he could win as a gap-penetrating defensive tackle in college, people were just stuck on the measurables. The measurables are no problem with Simmons, but there are legit questions about whether he's a true base down linebacker in a scheme that will ask him to take on linemen a lot, and if that is even the best use of his skillset (it almost certainly isn't which is my point). I think he can affect every play if you build a scheme around his skill set, but that's on coaches and most coaches will try to just plug players into what they do. It's notable to me that after all these years, Vic's defensive alignments have been pretty consistent. He still almost always only puts 5 DBs on the field on 3rd down as he did 8 years ago.

Simmons will continue to be an interesting discussion until draft day, but I think it's a moot point because he won't likely make it to our pick.
