Series of the Week: Brewers @ Cubs

We'll go with an interesting NL Central match-up this week.

Fri - Nelson vs Lackey
Sat - Anderson vs Montgomery
Sun - Davies vs Hendricks

The Brewers are still hanging in the race, but a rough series could end their playoff hopes. How confident are you guys going into this?

After 3 straight losses, the Cubs took the last two against the Pirates to split the series. How do Cubs fans feel their team is playing going into the post-season. Are the Cubs a serious threat to win back-back world series titles?

First week of the NFL season, so we'll see how this goes. Two of the most active fan bases we have here though.

If Aaron Donald is a member of FF he might post here a bunch. His weekend is wide open.

(Yes Cubs fans, we may hate each other, but we share a hatred for Cardinals fans, and by extension, the Rams.)

I'm not overly excited about the Cubs' chances right now.  The bullpen seems to have at least 2 meltdowns a week, despite having really good relievers back there.  That's the fickle nature of a bullpen for you.  Lester has been battling control issues for awhile now.  Russell may not even make it back before the preseason.  There's plenty to be pessimistic about in regards to the Cubs pulling it off again.

But on the other hand, Contreras will be back very soon, Arrieta has been pitching great since the ASB, and Hendricks finally found his missing velocity from last year.  Dodgers are really struggling down the stretch which breathes a little life into the rest of the NL contenders as well.  Should be a fun next couple weeks.

It hasn't made the rounds much in the media yet, but today was supposed to be a day game at Wrigley (city of Chicago doesn't want the Cubs playing Friday night games).  But after a night game in Pittsburgh and having to travel back, the Cubs petitioned the league to change it to a night game (after the city gave its consent this one time).  The Brewers objected to the petition, but the league approved it without hesitation.  Apparently the Brewers are pretty pissed off about the situation.

Part of the frustration from the Brewers stems back to the BS "rain delay" where the Cubs were granted the night after they completely blew out their bullpen. The game was cancelled way in advance of first pitch instead of waiting and seeing like team normally do, and no rain ever came.

They still had 4 guys in the bullpen who had not thrown the previous day. But even still, why would they be cranky about something that 1.  Is in the new CBA (no day games after night games in different cities);  and 2.  Doesn't put them at any sort of disadvantage?  Just seems extremely petty to me.  You can argue about the rain delay game all you want, but had it not been for the City of Chicago, this would have always been a night game anyway.

Yeah I agree that it's petty to still be worried about it, especially since the Brewers won the make up game. But I think the rain out game was where this whole fuss came from and there was some context needed.
