What the Thanksgiving week G5 schedule should be starting in 2020 (until next round of realignment)

Recommended Posts

East Carolina-Navy
Memphis-Tulane or Tulsa (alternates each year)
South Florida-UCF

Charlotte-Old Dominion
Louisiana Tech-Southern Miss
Marshall-Western Kentucky
Middle Tennessee-UAB (will need protected crossovers adopted)
North Texas-Rice

Akron-Kent State
Ball State-Northern Illinois
Bowling Green-Toledo
Buffalo-Eastern Michigan (would require MAC to adopt protected crossovers for all its members)
Central Michigan-Western Michigan
Miami (Ohio)-Ohio

Air Force-Colorado State
Boise State-Utah State
California schools/Hawaii take turns playing each other
New Mexico-Wyoming

Sun Belt
Appalachian State-Coastal Carolina
Arkansas State-Texas State
Georgia Southern-Georgia State
South Alabama-Troy

Here you got a nice slate of local rivalries that could fit very well on the Thanksgiving week schedule. I think the G5 needs the same consistency as the P5 in their Thanksgiving week schedules.

I think a lot of that could work, and there are some good matchups, but obviously, some are going to be stretching things.

For Navy, I think you could have the Notre Dame game that weekend, as it' is a rivalry for them that's much better than anything you could script locally.  Outside of them, Temple makes more sense than ECU due to proximity, and Navy recruits heavily in Tennessee so Memphis could also make some sense
