Patriots have played the easiest schedule in the league through week 5 with their opponents having a cumulative record of 5-18.

Steelers: 1-4 /  23rd offense
Dolphins: 0-5 / 32nd offense
Jets: 0-5 /         31st offense
Bills: 4-1 /         27th offense
Redskins: 0-5 / 30th offense

The Pats defense is always for real.

But for real as in holding every team to single digits? No. This is like hyping Dak Prescott up after starting the season against the 31st, 30th, and 32nd Pass Defenses.

The Pats have started the season against the 27th, 29th, 30th, 31st, and 32nd ranked offense this season.

I think whoever made the schedule this year wanted to make really good first impressions on certain players and units.

Remember during weeks 1-2 where everyone was like "Is the Ravens offense for real?" because we were beating up bad teams, then we regressed back to the norm but we're still the #1 scoring offense in the league? That's basically New England's defense.

Are they gonna set records every week and be historically great? Not likely, but they're a very good unit that will most likely finish top 5 in DVOA and be a defense that New England can absolutely win with in January/February.

I think its very real. not sure if its some historically great defense like its stats show, but its one they can win a SB with

This! They haven't played a single Offensive Juggernaut including the Steelers to actually  challenge them but it's by far the best Defense they've had a quite awhile.

It's a little bit ridiculous to see Patriots' FS McCourty in 1st place in the NFL in interceptions with 4.

It's a little bit ridiculous to see Patriots' OLB Collins with 2nd place in the the NFL in interceptions with 3.

It's a little bit ridiculous to see Patriots' CB Jackson tied for 3rd place in the the NFL in interceptions with 2.

They may not have played the best competition but if you have a good defense, then they should beat up on the bad offenses/QBs. And they’ve freakin’ dominated those offenses. Don’t know about all time tanking but they’re definitely a SB caliber defense and one of the best in the league.
