I think asking people to pass up on a head coaching job on that basis is a lot to ask for. He may not ever get another opportunity (if that were to prevent itself from that). Remember that one off season where Greg Roman was going to be a hot commodity and then boom, that was it. Never again was he even mentioned. Teryl Austin who disappeared into the ether pretty quickly. I don't think he leaves because I think it's doubtful he'll get offered a job. I mentioned it earlier in thread - being a defensive guy is a hard enough hill to climb. They just aren't the targets recently in this NFL. And being the hotshot defensive coordinator candidate simply doesn't hold the same cache.

And if you fail, you could just go back to being a coordinator. The pay raise that head coaches get compared to coordinators is also something that plays into it. Especially when these guys have families, and most do.

Make no mistake about it, if Saleh is a legitimate HC candidate at the end of the year, he should pursue it. And Im sure Shanny would encourage him to take advantage of the opportunity. The NFL coaching hierarchy is a very 'what have you done for me lately' kind of deal. You can just as quickly fizzle out as a prospect just as quickly as you ascend. Especially in this current state of GMs wanting more offensive-minded HCs, if a GM really is looking at Bob, he should definitely go all-in on getting one of those opportunities.

Fangio goes one and done and Kyle hires him to replace Saleh. Win/Win for everyone right?

That would be great but don't think Fangio goes one and out, especially with how the team is competing every week and don't have a QB.

Biggest weakness: Red zone efficiency

The 49ers finished last in the NFL a year ago when it came to turning red zone drives into touchdowns. They've made some progress this year (they're up to a 46% touchdown rate from 41% in 2018) but still have plenty of room to improve. Getting their starting offensive tackles and fullback back from injury should help, but if nothing else, they must cut down on turnovers when they get deep in opposing territory. They have three giveaways in the red zone in their first five games, second most in the NFL. -- Nick Wagoner

So yeah, need to get this corrected ASAP. I mean this is no doubt Shanny's weakness, but how about using a true power back in Wilson inside the five yard line?

So we carry 4 RBs plus a FB on the active gameday roster? That's a little too much for me. Especially when we're paper-thin at tackle.

Well, we always carry three TEs. Now one of those TEs moves down to FB. So really it is par for course.

I feel like Saleh would knock out the interview process. Also seems like a guy players love to play for.

I would agree with this. I love listening to him talk and seeing him on the sidelines. I just think it's an uphill battle for defensive guys.

This is why the OL has looked better than it really is the last few weeks. This dude's release is insane. Where do we rank on 3rd down conversion percentage? Feels like Jimmy G damn near always has the chains being on 3rd downs.

Espn.com has us ranked 10th at 45.5 percent. The bye factors into this but we've only been on third downs 66 times, converting 30 of them.

I honestly think we aren't higher due to a few blowouts where we got conservative at the end and just ran it mainly on 3rd down. I know against Cincy we didn't convert a few late in the game and likewise against Cleveland/LA.

Though on some of those 3rd downs where we didn't convert, we converted on 4th down.
