I've gone back and looked at some of these throws and it just looks like Mertz and Dike are not on the same page whatsoever. Dike's not ready to be running routes and he's being forced to play due to Davis and Pryor being down. It's not a surprise that Mertz looks different with 2 true freshman WR and 2 walk-ons over Davis and Pryor. Plus, the gameplans recently have been putrid and it's hard to throw consistently without rhythm, especially for a freshman QB throwing to freshman WRs. The entire offense just looks flat and has for a month. There's not a lot you can take away from this season TBQH other than we need Davis and Pryor to come back for that free season if we want to compete at all in 2021. It's lead to a **** ton of DPIs on meaningful possessions/plays this year and we get burned by it when playing more athletic teams or teams with great individual WRs. I don't care if we had both Watts back rushing the passer, I'd run 4 verts every play on this defense and would rack up chunk yards and DPIs. Doesn't trust any reads, panic stepping in clean pockets, throwing off the back foot with room to step up. Needs time off to hit reset. A full off-season with Berger, Davis/Pryor coming back, a better OL via graduation next year will do him well. We'd be smart to turn down any opportunities to play after this game.
