Uzomah and Gio are both very overpaid. Uzomah makes 6 mil per year as basically a backup blocking TE. We could have signed a much better player, Jesse James, for what we're paying CJ.  Gio is a backup RB. Those aren't worth 5 mil per year.

I'd argue that Uzomah is worth the money in the right situation.  He can ball, they're just not using him.  So in that sense, the Bengals overpaid.  Give him that money on a team that uses TE's and he's worth it.

Gio is overpaid however you want to look at it.  He's a decent player, but with the position he plays and his usage, it's a drastic overpay.

They are paid fairly relative to their peers. Nick Boyle, Tyler Kroft, Eric Ebron, and Jack Doyle all make similar money as a low end TE1/backup TE. Uzomah is signed for the least amount of guaranteed money out of all of them. That's what the market is set at for his role. Jesse James signed for even more and he's not definitively a better player than Uzomah. Tyler Higbee most recently reset the market by signing an even bigger contract for a similar role. You could argue because Uzomah's usage is so low he's overpaid relative to the team, but that doesn't ring true when comparing his salary across the market. The issue, like I said earlier, is his usage.

Same thing goes for Bernard. He's paid like a good backup, which he is. He's also paid considerably less guaranteed money compared to the field when you break it down. He makes $2 million guaranteed; the next highest in his tier is James White at $4.6 guaranteed. We just aren't using him like we should because the team doesn't seem to have a plan.

Meh, his contract isn't that bad. He's guaranteed pretty much nothing and can be released anytime without much of a financial burden. But like you said, that's relative to how we use him. Like Uzomah he's still a good player. If you stick him on the Patriots he would be as equally productive as James White and that offense wouldn't skip a beat.

RB contracts are admittedly jacked because most are on rookie deals, but Gios AVG is 12th in the league. There are 32 starters, so ergo it's starter money.

They should have let him go and used rookies, especially since they're not using him.

He's overpaid however you slice it.

He is for sure,  but we aren't close enough to the cap that it matters.
