Matts4313
Quote It is possible to return in three to four weeks after swelling subsides and strength returns. But even with a brace, the risk of re-dislocation is high, and the risk of subluxaton (slipping transiently out of groove) is even higher. Trent Williams tried to play through this injury and couldn’t. Matt Stafford had a similar injury in 2009 and returned in three weeks. He did have surgery in the offseason. But Stafford is more of a pocket QB. Mahomes would have to alter his game to improve his chances to finish the season without surgery. Fortunately, the other ligaments are fine. https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/pro-football-doc/story/2019-10-17/patrick-mahomes-will-need-surgery-on-knee-sooner-or-later

A second dislocation or any kind of compromise to the knee would result in a more serious injury and that's the interesting point of contention here.
BayRaider
I’d shut him down if I was KC. He’s the most valuable player in the league. You can return after a few weeks but I’m reading there a risk for more damage. Plus he wouldn’t be able to scramble and make crazy plays anymore. So while I’m sure he’d be very good, he’d be a much more limited version of himself.
RandyMossIsBoss
If re-injury is that serous, shelf him for the year, and in meantime trade for Foles. He'll shine w/ Reid, and then they'll be able to trade Foles (even w/ his contract) for even more next year to some desperate suitor after he puts up great numbers.

Vladimir L
Their back up looked good. If they can go 4-4 the next 8 weeks with a back up and end up 10-6 to make a play off run jd roll the dice on that.

lomaxgrUK
Awful news. Definitely agree that he should be shut down. Don't rush him back, there is absolutely no need. With a QB like Mahomes, your window is 15 years not 1 year. Get it right over the next 9 months and go again next year.
