sryan66611
So I've been meaning to create a thread like this for a while just to compare Jason Licht's draft history vs. some other GMS and see how it would be graded out. I know there are varying opinions about Jason Licht's drafts so we can really see how he stacks up. I am going to post links to notable GMS and all the GMS in our division. The other notable GMs I included are people who are either connected to Jason Licht in some way or GMs that have been successful and/or recent SB winners. Just note that I included only GMs and not teams because I think it isn't fair to evaluate teams that have had multiple GMs or a newly acquired GM. I just look at the drafts from 2014 if it's an older GM that has been with their team for a while. From our division, I think the best drafting GM is hands down Marty Loomis and he has also been a top drafter in the league IMO which is a huge reason why he has been with the Saints for so long. **I did include two for Panthers because it was a weird situation but I could not find a complete list for David Gettleman** At the end of the articles/link I posted there are some stats and the author's view of the worst/best draft picks from each GM. I didn't include my opinion on Jason just because I wanted an open discussion between all our members and didn't want my thoughts to be taken as persuasion to anyone. I feel I can look at Jason's drafts from both angles and it will be interesting to see how others view him after looking at some of the other GMs around the league. Lil' Shorty
Great links and info. Interesting discussion. I think Jason has been average, and that’s why he’s still here. We could move on and get a lot worse and I think ownership is fearful of that. It was all downhill after Evans lol, well maybe not with Godwin. It’s funny but when Licht hits on someone, it’s 3-4 rounds. Coaching definitely makes a difference on if a player develops. Granted Licht doesn’t have the track record or sample size of Loomis or Roseman, but aside from Evans, Marpet and Godwin, who has really been an impact starter for us? That’s the problem. Vea might be getting there but 3-4 impact starters (not necessarily Pro Bowlers) in 5 drafts isn’t great. Oh and we can just forget about 2016. I think Roseman is pretty underwhelming as far as drafting goes compared to the praise he gets. I mean he has had some hits but some downright awful drafts too. All around hes a great GM though. All I remember is freaking Danny Watkins and Marcus smith lol those are some huge misses from him.
