Even backups coming in slinging the ball around winning games. I think QBs are just genuinely playing better due to coaching AND the pro offenses being more similar than ever to the college offenses. Easier transitions all around. We have smarter coaches designing their schemes around their QB. Not to mention rule changes that continually favor offenses, specifically the passing game. On top of all that, we may also just be in a golden age of QB talent where the great QBs of the last decade are still here and playing great football, even as the new talent comes in. Yes, in generations past, guys like Brees, Brady, Ben, Rodgers, would likely all be retired or very close to it. I think a combination of all those things, plus a softer league letting the old guys continue to play at levels comparable to their prime. NeptunePenguins
1. Tom Brady 2. Aaron Rodgers 3. Lamar Jackson 4. Russell Wilson 5. Patrick Mahomes 6. Deshaun Watson 7. Ryan Tannehill 8. Drew Brees 9. Kirk Cousins 10. Jimmy Garoppolo Based on their overall levels of talent and not their stats.
BayRaider
My list at Mid Season was: Elite Five: 1) Russell Wilson 2) Aaron Rodgers 3) Tom Brady 4) Patrick Mahomes 5) Drew Brees Top 10: 6) Deshaun Watson 7) Philip Rivers 8) Matt Ryan 9) Carson Wentz 10) Lamar Jackson The changes I’d make now are swap Jackson and Rivers. And then take Rivers out of the Top 10 completely and put Stafford at 10. Everything else is virtually the same. Yes Lamar is having an elite season and best along with Wilson. But I’m not ready to move him past 7. We’ve seen how prematurely moving someone into the top works multiple times. Not that I think that will happen to Lamar. I also still prefer Watson over Lamar. Watson is a beast and still underrated around the league I feel like. Yes, I think Tom Brady is a Top 3 QB. Unpopular opinion but whatever. If you actually watch games it’s still the exact same Tom Brady since 2015. His arm talent hasn’t deteriorated at all. He has a Bottom 5-7 Pass Protection, Bottom 2-3 WR core, all RBs averaging 3.0 YPC, and some dreadful offensive play calling. Brady is moving the chains completely by himself. BroncoBruin
A top 10 list one year ago today feels a lot more complete than one made today. Decline of 2004 QBs, retirement of Luck, whatever you make of 2019 Brady, and the inconsistencies of recent breakout stars in Wentz and Watson...I don't know where you go with this list after the top 5 or so. You don’t magically all of a sudden become a Top 6 QB. I’d have Cousins around 12.

That's where you guys put him if he's having a "bad year" He's top 5 in almost every category.

Top 5 in every category and still just a slightly above average QB. We all know who Kirk Cousins is... and he's not top 5. You said Cousins is better than half that list.. I'll agree with you on Wentz and Rivers and maybe Ryan. Who are the other 2-3 on there that Cousins is better than?

I was impressed with Ryan last year but haven't really seen any of their games this season. What is holding him back this year? His WRs have been healthy, granted he lost one of his top targets mid season. 1. Russell Wilson 2. Patrick Mahomes 3. Aaron Rodgers 4. Drew Brees 5. Lamar Jackson 6. Deshaun Watson 7. Tom Brady 8. Matthew Stafford 9. Dak Prescott 10. Matt Ryan Honestly, I think Josh Allen is right outside the top 10 at this point as well.

He beat up some of the worst secondaries in NFL History this year: Giants x2, Redskins, Dolphins, Lions, Eagles... against real defenses he literally looked like a Bottom 5 QB. Saints, Packers, Patriots, Bills, and Bears. Looked awful in all 5 of those. You can maybeee argue Top 15.

List of QBs playing better than Cousin this season: 1) Lamar Jackson 2) Russell Wilson 3) Drew Brees 4) Patrick Mahomes 5) Deshaun Watson 6) Dak Prescott Past that you get into QBs that are playing at a similar level as Cousins, depending on which stats you value most. Bottom line is he should be listed as a top 10 QB this season. If you want to weight seasons prior, that's fine. But right now, Cousins is unquestionably top 10 in the most important stats: 2nd in adjusted net yards per attempt, 3rd in adjust yards per attempt, 4th in yards per attempt, 4th in QBR. He's 7th in the NFL with 25 TDs on the season. And he's done all of this on the 20th most attempts.
