Why??

I just think he has the right mentality for the job. He had the 49ers playing out of their mind when he was there on defense. I know Harbaugh got more out of Alex Smith but I think Singletary has a good up and coming QB here in Jones and would make this team a lot more competitive. I believe Jones will grow and I think Singletary can teach more now than he did before. This teams need an old school hardnosed SOB of a human being to put the fear of God into them. They wanna fear and respect failing their coach more than anything else. I believe we had that in Coughlin, I think Singletary is that type as well.

A team source confirmed, though, that there were no immediate plans for ownership to either fire Shurmur or to force any staff shakeup in the wake of the Giants’ 2-9 record – at least until the end of the season.

. . .

It’s much more likely, the source said, that the Giants will revisit Bettcher’s status after the season, especially if the rookies and young players don’t show signs of improvement in the final five games.

As for Shurmur, he seems safe for now too, and very likely into next season as well. Giants GM Dave Gettleman seems to believe the franchise is headed in the right direction and he has always been one of Shurmur’s biggest supporters. And though the final call will belong to co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch, Gettleman is obviously a powerful ally for a head coach to have.

This is the more likely scenario anyway. I think Shurmur and DG get another year but will be forced to replace Bettcher. He'll the sacrificial lamb (and rightly so IMHO). I doubt anything else changes.

Bettcher is probably the best coach on the staff (he has the best track record at least) and he is going to get the axe before career loser Shurmur does. Ugh.

Maybe we can hire Dan Quinn as DC after the season?

I don't know why the Bettcher scheme isn't working out here. You can't deny his numbers when he was in Arizona. If it's a devoid of talent problem well that's kind of on him too. Unless you're trying to tell me DG went out and signed a bunch of ex Cardinals on a whim. Plus there's been a ton of defensive draft picks the last 2 seasons. It's not like they signed him and then hung him out to dry.

Look at the numbers Spags put up in 2016. His D was 2nd in the league in points per game at 17.8. Imagine how good holding a team to 17 would feel right now after the putrid defensive season they've had O.o:$

I’ve seen Antonio Pierce floated around a lot.

We have garbage for LBs.  Tbh if we drafted all LB and OL this year we might be okay next year.  Simmons or Moses would be great.

I look at the defensive roster and I still see a pretty solid 4-3.  We're stronger and have more depth on the Dline then we have in the LBing corps so why exactly are we running a 3-4? You draft Baker who is a press man to man specialist and we're using him to play off coverage. Of course he looks lost. You'd have a meaty line with Williams and Lawrence on the ends but they can get some rush pressure.

Here's what I would do in the offseason:
1- Convert back to an attacking 4-3 and sign someone aggressive like Spags
2- Put Tomlinson and Hill at DT.
3- Golden, Ogletree, and Carter at LB for speed and pass rush abilities
4- Draft/sign more man to man press corners like Baker
5- Draft Chase Young
6- Press and Attack

I know this works because it's exactly what I did on Madden and  I'm currently 12-2 on All Madden B|

Based on the thought process of seeing Bettcher get fired, and us reverting back to a 4-3.. i see Young as our top pick. Then Tristan Wirfs in Rd2 . Alaric Jackson opposite him is on the rise. I can see Wirfs just slipping albeit slightly into rd2. If Young is taken from us by the Redskins, i think we go top OT in the draft in Andrew Thomas, then Rd 2. Anfernee Jennings from Bama

I see the Giants as having four really big holes that need to be solved: EDGE, OT (both spots need an upgrade), FS, ILB. In my opinion, EDGE and OT are the two hardest to solve, and one of those spots is going to be have to be filled with premium draft capital.

EDGE: Chase Young is obviously THE guy here. Problem is, I feel like the draft order will wind up being 1) Cincinnati, 2) Washington, 3) NY Giants or Miami 4) NY Giants or Miami 5) NY Jets or Atlanta. I don't see the Giants getting past Washington in the great race to the bottom, and even though Washington could not be more dysfunctional, they're not dumb enough to pass on a talent like Chase Young. If they are though, easy pick.

Alternate idea: Shaq Barrett. I don't know is his year is a fluke, and buying pass rushing in free agency is always risky, but I feel like a trio of Shaq/Markus Golden/Lorenzo Carter could get the job done. Or maybe a dude like Gross-Matos slips and he's around at the top of round 2

OT: Looks like a pretty good year for OTs in the draft. Andrew Thomas is the big name that I've seen floating around. I'm not above spending a top 5 pick on an OT if it helps young Danny Boy and Saquon. There could also be a pretty decent prospect sitting at the top of Round 2. For me personally, I think the Giants really need to go EDGE/OT or OT/EDGE. Those positions dry up fast.

Alternate idea: Brandon Scherff. He's a guard for Washington but he has played RT in the past. Good player. I've enjoyed watching him for awhile.

FS: Still a mess. Can't hurt to see what Julian Love can do. The guy that I'd love to swipe is Byron Jones from the Cowboys. Versatile, dynamic, still pretty young, weaken a division rival, has played everywhere in the secondary, has been a thorn in the Giants side for awhile.

ILB: Should be a little easier to fill. Ogletree has to go he's just not very good. Maybe OU's ILB Kenneth Murray will slip to us in the second? Danny Trevathan could also be a decent free agent add.

That's what im afraid of as well. Chase Young is more than likely not getting to us if we are at #3. One guy I think we should consider if we lose out on both Thomas and Young is Derrick Brown out of Auburn. If we do revert to a 4-3 and im pretty sure we are going to when they sh--can Bettcher.. can u imagine.. BJ Hill, DLaw, Brown and Williams?... that's a pretty decent line on paper
