I'm looking for Dee Ford to be a game wrecker. He only played 20 out of the total 68 snaps on Sunday. He should be rested and ready to chase down Murray. Bosa on the other hand, was pretty gassed after Sunday and played a lot. I wouldn't be surprised to see Blair get his fair share of snaps on Thursday.

Let's hope for another blowout to continue resting starters in the 4th quarter.

Problem with Ford is that he's not healthy. He hasn't played a ton of snaps in any game this year. He played 58% of the snaps against Tampa, and hasn't played more than 40% of the defensive snaps since. I don't think his rest is really factoring into it at this point - I think it's just his health. I don't think he'll be healthy for this entire year, so I imagine that he'll stick in that pass rusher specialist, one out of every three downs play count. I think he's just climbing an uphill battle to be a game wrecker when playing that few snaps.

Hot take, or really should not be an hot take, but even if he is fully healthy, his snaps would be around the same. Why? Because Armstead/Bosa in the base are so much better against the run and more versatile so Ford was always going to be the odd man out.

Agreed. When we made that deal, I fought really hard against the premise that he should be playing 70% of the snaps just because we are paying him a lot of money. While I'm a little surprised at 33% (I do think that is slightly health related - I would expect something closer to 50% if fully healthy). We don't pay him to stop the run. We just don't. We pay him to disrupt the passing game. There's no reason to put him out on the field for something he's not good at when we have plenty of people on the team who are good at it. I never understood the sense of that. Make the team on the field worse. Make Ford worse. All because we just happen to be paying him a bunch of money?

His impact has been immense and he doesn't need to be playing all that many more snaps than he is. Once we play a team that spreads it out quite a bit and passes quite a bit, he will get more time. Heck, that may be this week against the Cardinals. But he's been VERY productive when he's been out there. Definitely worth a 2nd rounder. His speed rush is something that Bosa/Armstead/Buckner cannot provide and something we badly needed. Him and Thomas come off the ball the quickest.

Speaking of Solly, I'm so happy about his growth rushing the passer. On limited snaps, he still always gets a QB hit and is bringing constant pressure. He was always solid against the run, but now he's actually been rushing the passer better than stopping the run. Excited to see him with more time one of these weeks.

To put it in further perspective, on 81 pass rush snaps, he has two QB sacks, two other QB hits and four QB hurries.

The sample size obviously needs to be bigger, but man that is being very productive in limited snaps and taking advantage of the time he is out there.

He'll get his chance to show out next season.  No way AA is back (can't even really keep him on a tag since that's almost 20m. If we tag him, it's to trade him).

Yep, but man hopefully we can franchise and trade AA. It will really suck losing AA as he's been our best player and has been a complete game wrecker. This is why we need to go for it NOW. This may be the most talented team we will have for the next five or so years. Doesn't mean we still can't compete because our DL should still be elite even without AA, but we legitimately have the most stacked defensive roster in the league right now. That doesn't last for long as we saw after 2013.

We really need to. It's becoming more of a thing lately (Landry, Ford), and you don't need a huge deal. Plus, you're probably not talking a lot. Maybe a third or something? A team is basically giving up a  pick for exclusive rights to him in what is also likely to be a slightly depressed contract because he's not hitting the open market (take Ford's contract for example). I think that's worth a third.

They made the right decision. It actually worked for everyone involved. Murray looks like he's going to be far better and have a much greater chance at being a franchise quarterback than Rosen. Had they not cut bait with Rosen, stuck with him even longer, the probably would have wasted a good chunk of Bosa's rookie contract and continued to set their rebuild back for a couple of years. Instead, they already look like a much better team, got what looks like their QBotF, and sped up their rebuild. We got Bosa. It really was a win-win scenario by them making that choice. I can't hate on them for passing on Bosa.

You don't think we can get a 2nd for AA if he ends up making one of the All Pro teams? I guess Ford had multiple years of 10+ sacks so that's why he went for what he went.

Clutch on Shanny/Lynch to trading him for a 2020 2nd rounder when the team will be picking late 50s or early 60s opposed to trading a 2019 2nd rounder!

I think a two would be possible, but you have to look at who would be targeting him in my opinion, and I don't think it's likely to be contenders to be perfectly honest. The saints are good. Packers too. We know that the Pats don't put that kind of emphasis on their edge guys. The eagles are kind of stocked on the defensive line, though injuries have killed them this year. I think it's far more likely that a team like the Raiders, or the Giants would be in on that, and a current year pick would be reasonably high in the second round.

We also gave up a future 2 for Ford, which equates to a current 3, so that has to be accounted for as well. I think a 3 is probably far more feasible given the situation. If he makes an all pro team, maybe the value goes up, but that's a big ask because he doesn't have the name recognition and I dont think it's likely that he ends up with like 13 sacks or something.

Here is a trip down memory lane. Week 14 Cardinals at 49ers. With the 49ers playoff chances on the brink of going up in smoke, the squad puts a beatdown on Arizona. Arguably their best game that season, even if the competition was a joke. Coincidentally as of last game, this was the last time the 49ers scored at least 50 points. Too bad the playoff chances basically ended the following week in Cincinnati. The 49ers just sucked on the road that year.

I think Bosa's talent would be wasted at Will or Sam. He is a pure DE. This would have been a very bad idea, IMO.

I think he probably would have been okay, but I agree that they would have lost something in the transition. He was made to be a DE
