Offense: Spread offense Condensed Set

This week we face a defense that is under remodel. Sing-Sing traded off Snacks Harrison and Jaylon Smith this week and brought in Chandler Jones in the same move to supplant Preston Smith in the defensive lineup. This shifts Kendricks and Nicols into the starting lineup to replace the pair. While this strengthens an already formidable edge rush, it weakens the LBing core especially in coverage considering opponent passer rating against Kendricks in coverage is 122.0.

This week we replaced LT Nate Solder with rookie Andre Dillard. We feel Dillard provides a better option this week with the pass rush we are facing than Solder did last week. In addition to the LT switch, we will be playing a condensed set. This strategy helps us in two ways: In the passing game it forces the defense to squish in closer to the box pre-snap, then puts them into conflict post-snap. It gives the offense a lot of space to the edges of the field for receivers to get open and for the QB to make easier throws. It also forces the defense to cover more ground post-snap. In the running game it washes the edge rushers as the TEs and WRs are playing up close to the formation which allows for the sealing of the edge and allows the bulldozer that is Fournette into the second level of the defense.

Passing:
The first thing we want to preach is Goff needs to get the ball out of his hands in 3 seconds. Utilizing the a spread condensed formation we feel that can happen quite readily as there is a lot of space on the field that will be available to get the ball to our receivers as the coverage will have to cover more ground each play out of the formation. We will not keep the TE or RB in for protection this game. We feel that getting the ball out in three seconds is doable in this alignment no matter the strength of pressure Sing-Sing sends each down.

We will be utilizing the following plays to execute the main tenants of the passing game X - Hilton, Y - Sanu/Metcalf, H - Olsen, Z - Fitzgerald:
Smash Flanker + Whip

Smash + Dive:

The main targets in these looks are whoever is being covered by Kendricks whether it be the RB or TE. We will look to spread the ball to all of our WRs as well this week especially Sanu considering he has led the league in separation % for the past 3 years and Hilton due to his speed.

We will also be utilizing 2 TE formations from time to time with Hockenson, as well as spreading out the defense even further by flashing some four (Metcalf) and five wide sets (Slayton/Gabriel) throughout the game to test Singapore's depth at CB after trading Waynes and to pull valuable defenders in the front 7 off the field. We will also be utilizing Henderson's speed from time to time in the passing game.

Running Game:
At the same time even with Singapore often playing a 5-2 look with both edge rushers moved up in the box. The problem with this is that if they do that it and the RBs duo of Fournette (and lesser so Peterson) get to the second level they have few bodies left that can tackle either back in the open field. Near the goal line look for more 2 TE looks for both redzone passes and extra blockers to get hit off the edge and into the endzone.

Defense:
Singapore had two options as of his time of write-up submission. Predict Keenan Allen to play sparingly or Keenan Allen not to play at all and sacrifice a potential WR spot. Either way Singapore is definitely hurting at it's receiving options this week especially with Gordon hitting IR. Thus this week we will be playing straight up man coverage on the defensive front. Singapore plays a varied system with a bunch of middling receivers after Keenan Allen. Thus this week we will sport a couple of different formations.

2WR/2TE - 5-2
3WR/1 TE - 4-2-5
4WR/1TE - 4-1-6
5WR - Quarter Zone Blitz

Passing Game:
Man Coverage on the outside. Luke and Raekwon will have TE coverage. Peppers will maintain RB coverage. Smith will be playing single high. Playing five dline helps stimie the running game especially inside, while also moves the edge rushers out wide with Addison and Graham. We trust our corners to lock down the beleagued Sing-Sing WR crew as we have a set of elite CBs this week. We also expect when they do go to three and four wide that Williams and Moseley will have it locked down accordingly. We will use the pressure of the front five to test Sing-Sings oline and try to break the pocket for Rodgers.

Running Game:
With Peppers moved up in the box it will give the quasi 5-3 box against 2 TE sets. This will keep Sing-Sing from getting a lot of gains even if they somehow manage to get outside the pocket. Our LBing crew is also solid against the running game so we will have the ability to cover from sideline to sideline in both 2 and 3 wide

Singapore

Motivation

In what will likely be our toughest matchup of the season so far, we welcome the Hippos to our house. We’ve added a few new weapons that should frustrate them enough to get us the win against another division leader. Playoff seeding is on the line.

OFFENSE

Scheme:  Balanced 55/45 Run

Rushing Attack

Even though Bell has a better QB in Rodgers to take men out of the box, we are going with the hot hand and giving the start to James Conner. Conner will get 50% of the carries with Bell and Murray splitting 3rd down duties and a series or two to give Conner some rest. We respect the Hippo defense especially their LB’s which is why we are in a 2 TE set to help get an extra blocker to get our guys to the second level. We will also use our RB’s in the passing game on screens and wheel routes. In Jumbo sets Graham or Higbee come in as the 3rd TE.

Passing Game

Rodgers is hitting his stride after buying into to the offense. We’ll sprinkle in a little RPO this week to throw the Hungary defense off. Corey Davisn and Mecole Hardman are at the top of the depth chart now and can run all the routes needed to get the job done. Waller and Moreau might be the best young TE duo in the league. With Hungary likely focusing on the run this week we think it will open up the middle for them to keep the chains moving. Keenan Allen is banged up so we will limit his snaps this week as the slot WR and split time with Anothony Miller. New addition Chris Conley give us depth to go 4WR on occasion and spread out the Hungary secondary.

Pass Protect

We’ve got exceptional blockers in our RB’s and TE’s to help keep Graham and Addison off of Rodgers to allow him to work his magic. Utilizing a quick passing game will get the ball out faster and the addition of RPO will help with play action as well. Rodgers is mobile enough to keep the Hippos guessing.

Defense

Scheme:  4-2-5 Defense Man Cover 1/2

Under Pressure

The rich just got richer. Chandler Jones is facing a juicy matchup this week against Nate Solder. Danielle Hunter on the opposing side against Jack Conklin  means that doubling one or both of these guys leaves Aaron Donald free to shoot his gap. Goff won’t know where the pressure is coming from and we can keep it up for four quarters with Preston Smith and Everson Griffen coming off the bench. Our secondary is great in man coverage and with as little time Goff will have with just our 4 man rush the Hippo offense will be stagnant this game.

Run Stop

Our goal is stuffing the rushing game and forcing Goff and company to beat us through the air.  We expect them to try the RPO so will be prepared for it by placing Deion Jones on Goff as a spy. Our DL are the best in the business at both run defense and rushing the passer. Danielle Hunter leads the league in TFL and should be able to keep Fournette and/or Peterson contained. We have the beef on the interior with Harris and Donald as our interior pocket collapsers. And a full meal deal of rotational guys in Nichols, RR-H and Walker keeps us in the game wearing down the OL of the Hippos. Kendricks will be a spy on the RB to limit screens and short passes.

Coverage Assignments

We like our chances against the Hippos receivers. Hilton, Fitz and probably Metcalf/Sanu this week are all solid receivers but our guys can cover well. We will play pure man this week and make them beat us with Goff having the least amount of time all year to get the ball out against our front four. Jason McCourty will cover the left side with Quinton Dunbar taking the right and Jonathan Jones in the slot. We don’t have a need to shadow as all three DB’s are playing to a high standard this season. Walker will have deep safety responsibilities. Kareem Jackson will cover the tight end in Olsen and if the go 2TE we will rotate Duron Harmon in for Jones in a Big Nickel. In 4 WR situations Desmond King comes in for Kendricks in our Dime package to cover the second slot WR. Finally, if Hungary goes into their 5 WR speed package, we will counter with our Dollar package (7 DB’s) with Harmon and King coming in for Kendricks and Harris. Jackson will cover a WR in that instance and the two other safeties will have deep coverage. Even rushing 3 guys we should be able to shut down all of Goffs passing lanes.

Both teams are solid as are the gameplans. However that combo of A Rod and James Conner...yes please, give more of that. The defense for Singapore has a ridiculous pass rush as well. I gotta give them the nod here.

I'm not the Dolphins defense... just because the Dolphins are terrible at stopping the run doesn't mean he is going to be able to find holes in an 8 man box...

How did Dillard play this week?

Played well especially in run blocking. Only sack given up Wentz ran right into his back as he was chased  by the other end from Lane Johnson losing his block which forced Wetnz inside and into Dillard where Lawson just had to reach around Dillard to pull Wentz down. Beyond that no other sacks were had from his side on the day.

Eh...did you watch that game? Lol that gameplan was so bad. Normally I'd give NE credit there but Pittsburgh looked like they didnt give a F and didnt want to be there.

No one has all year against that D. I'm not expecting the same level of dominance in the next few weeks but there won't be that much drop off IMO.

Plus my Front 7 is much, much better than the Pats.
