Hawaii Nightmarchers

Gameplan

Motivation:  Big time trades for us this week has reshaped our offense and defense.  We now run out there 2 of the top 12 wide receivers in football (Godwin and Diggs), the top running back (Barkley), 3 of the best pass rushers (Clowney, Clark, and JPP), one of the best LB groups (Jack, Smith, Davis) with a backup edge rusher/LB ready to come in and give the starters a rest (Landry).  Oh and not to mention Russell Wilson is leading this damn group.  Time to SHINE, baby!!!!

Offensive Base Formation: We love the shotgun pistol formation, 2 WR split to the weak side.  TE and the other WR on the strongside. This formation gives plenty of opportunity and space for Barkley to run and Godwin and Diggs to get open for big plays.

Pistolformation1a.png

Tempo: This week we will be running normal tempo offense.  We got weapons everywhere, pro bowl blockers to help the run and pass.

Playcalling Distribution:

40% run

20% pass

30% playaction pass

10% RPO

Personnel Changes: on offense we move Godwin into our star studded lineup, this moves Tate to the slot.

Running: Our team is built to run and we will continue that this week.  We return to our base formation this week and will again use the Shotgun Pistol formation this week.  We expect to be in our base formation 50% of the time.  We will run variants with McDonald as a motion man or bring in Mattison to be the motion man and help to be a lead blocker for SB. Being in the pistol, our runs will be spread out to both sides of the ball, keeping the Hungary's defense off balance.  Our favorite play this week will be Pull to Bust, which will be ran from the Shotgun Pistol formation.  It requires the TE to motion from the weak side over to the strong side and be slotted back off the line of scrimmage.

Clemson_2011_Pistol_Like_Formation.jpg

As shown above, we expect Hungary to be playing predominantly a 4-2-5 defense which this play will wreck them big time.  It will also work against almost anything Hungary can throw at it.  This play is a simple run that should provide big time yardage.  The play is designed to go to the strongside as to give SB the most amount of room to make plays happen.  The whole setup starts with the back side, Yanda will cut the DT, allowing our pro bowl Center (Kelly) to pull to the right (strongside).  Scherff uses an inside move to get to the LB, while Buluga and MacDonald block down to the inside and force the DT and DE away from the edge of the line.  Scherff's goal is to get to the strongside LB and if not to seal off all other help from the inside.  Kelly rounds the edge of the line to mop up anything missed (strongside LB, DB or missed lineman).  Barkey will be off to the races over and over here.

On inside plays we plan on motioning our TE (80% of the time) or Mattison down inside and allow him to become a defacto fullback and clean up anyone left in the holes allowing SB to burst through with vengeance on his mind.  We have large and angry men up front ready to open the holes for our horse to stroll on through to the endzone.

Passing: Hungary won't be able to stop the run and the pass, this week is gonna be fun fellas.  Having one of the best QB's in the game to throw Diggs and Godwin (both top 15 wide receivers) is going to beat a lot of people or open things up even more for SB.   Stefon Diggs, who has been playing better than almost any WR in football lately with 3 straight 140+ yard games, will pair nicely with Godwin who leads football in TD's and has 4 150+ games himself.  We will use a bunch of crossing routes and slants early on the game which we will shift to double moves on the outside later on and look to catch Hungary DB's cheating.  Diggs has been huge at catching the deep ball and we expect a couple more of them this week.  If Hungary wants to double him it just leaves Godwin open to crush their spirits.  Being extremely balanced and with weapons galore, we will keep their D guessing so much that they won't be able to stop us.  If they try and load the box on early downs we will shift more to passing plays and playaction passes.  We also won't forget about Barkely here, getting him in screens and check downs will be the key to keeping the chains moving.

Playaction and RPO's: we will be using these to catch Hungary crowding the box and cheating up to help stop Barkley.  Diggs and Godwin are ready to burn Hungary when they load up and jump in to stop Barkley.   We will also use our slot receiver to sprinkle in the RPO's as the linebackers start to cheat more and more to help try and stop Barkley.

Defense Base Formation: 4-3 defense, switching to Nickel in passing downs and dependent upon ingame situations. We will also use more 4-4 sets when Hungary goes to 2 TE sets and on clear running downs.

pict-american-football-positions-diagram

Formation usage:

4-3: 50%

Nickel: 25%

4-4: 25%

Defensive Base coverages:

Cover 3 - 25%

Cover 2 Man Under - 20%

Cover 1 Man - 15%

Quarters - 25%

Tampa 2 - 15%

Personnel Changes:  we traded away Rankins, but also traded for a huge boost on our D-line, JPP.  This week we will be playing him on the inside at DT.  The Bucs used him a number of times on the inside last week to a rousing success.  We plan to do the same.  We will be moving JPP around with Clark to give Hungary different looks so they can't plan for where JPP will be lining up.  Clark will be a game time decision, so if he can't go we will slide Landry down to DE to replace Clark while still keeping our same game plan.

Playstyle: we expect Hungary to come out with a pretty balanced attack.   We have addressed our front line personnel,  as for the coverage, Myles Jack is a solid defender and we will be using him some more in man situations, allowing our LB's to blitz more freely and often.  Goff wanted to get rid of the ball quick last week and he will have to really step that up this week, otherwise Clowney, Clark, JPP and the LB's will have a field day.  We will look to switch our coverage up a lot and try and fool him pre-snap and confuse him enough to allow our all-pro edge rusher or blitzing LB to get pressure on him and get the sack.  With those quick passes we will be playing a good bit of zone which will allow us to jump those quick passes and create turnovers.  If they run more WR or pass heavy sets we will shift to increasing our zone coverage.  If they stay in a 3 WR set or less, Jack will take the WR3/TE.  To help out Hughes he will be getting help over the top and at times a double team to decrease the shots that Goff takes at him.

As for Fournette.  We will be sticking to our 4-3 D and upping our 4-4 percentage to stuff him at the line with our strongest asset taking over the game.  Run blitzes early and often will help to combat anything they may get from Fournette.  Hungary will have no chance to beat us with the run and their quick passing game will struggle against our zone defense (switching up often to include man).

Tl;dr: Riding Barkley early but switching to our passing game to keep things balanced and Hungary's D guessing.  This week we will feature our outside run Pull to Bust.  T and TE block down, the frontside G seals off the inside LB's, while the C pulls to mop up anything that got through, and the backside cut block.  Against the 4-2-5 defense (or any variation) this play will be huge.  Once they are in shock from Barkley and our WR's, we hit em with the playaction bombs to Diggs and Godwin and screens and check downs to Barkley.  Defense will be predominately 4-3, Nickle zone D, or 4-4 (on early downs and running situations).  We will be doubling the receiver Hughes is on or giving him help over the top.

AINT IT A GREAT TIME TO BE A FAN IN HAWAII!!!!

@ Hungary Hippos

Offense:
Main Formation: 3WR. Additional Formations: 2 TE, 3 TE  Jumbo, 4 WR, 5 WR

Hawaii's defensive prowess is lacking at this point in the season. Lattimore while having name recognition has struggled this season giving up 60% of receptions when targeted. Hughes the replacement corner has given up 61%. Behind them they only have two additional depth corners in Chavius Ward (57%) and Kendall Sheffield (68%). In addition to the secondary, Frank Clark is out once more leaving Fackrell (.5 sack), Chad Thomas (1 sack) and Pennell (0 sacks) as the other outside edge rusher reducing the pass rush Hawaii brings to the table off the edge. In the LBing core both Jack and Smith have struggled both against the running game and in the passing game at the second level. Hawaii's defense is not in a good place and we look to take full advantage of that.

Running Game: We will be looking to feed Fournette this week 21-24 carries running inside and outside. Mostert will be coming in on 3rd down plays for speed and pass catching ability. With new LT Taylor Decker being added to the lineup, we have fortified the left side of our offensive line and helped Fournette have an even easier time hitting the edge. We will be utilizing a number of different running plays including draws, screens and flare routes which will combat against any remaining pass rush Hawaii attempts to send.

Passing Game:
Last week, when faced against Berlin, Hawaii went to zone looks when faced with passing downs. If they continue to do that this week when in 3 WR sets we will sit in shotgun formation and hit the quick passes to our receivers. Myles Jack was put on the nickel in these situations. If that continues this week DK Metcalf will freely get to run down the field in a seam route we will see how fast Myles Jack can run in comparison to the gazelle like WR with the power of a rhinocerous. In addition, to help Goff read he defense we will put a WR in motion. This will help identify single coverage as well has find additional spots in the zone to hit his WRs. Crossing routes will be heavily utilized if they stay in zone again this week.

In 2 TE looks we look for matchups against Jack and Smith in coverage this week when Olsen/Hockenson/Doyle are in the game. They will also often be used as additional run blockers off the edge to get Fournette more running room at the second level.

We will also sport some 4 WR and 5 WR looks especially on downs that Clowney lines up against Decker. In 4 WR the RB will be in to block to allow Goff even more time in the pocket for his WRs to find the open space. Often in 5 WR looks, we will deploy a speed package that incorporates Isabella (4.31) Gabriel (4.4), Slayton (4.39)  and Metcalf (4.33) to test how well their corners can keep up with the speed threats across the field while having a non-cb on one of the four.

Defense:
Nickel 4-2-5

Hawaii's OTs are having some issue this week against the Hungary pass rush. At the end of the game last week Bulaga injured one of his hands and gave up a sack while playing against the Chiefs. This week he wears his brace on his hand to protect the finger and it is unknown how this will effect his efficiency in pass blocking. On the other side of the line Taylor Decker was traded to Hungary leaving Cam Robinson as it's only remaining option at LT. Cam while being solid in run blocking has not shored up the left side of oline in pass blocking struggling to defend his QB's blindside. This week we be sending constant pass rush after Wilson in the pocket with Graham, Suggs, Wake and Ximines checking in and out of the lineup throughout the game to get into Wilson's backfield. Graham will lineup primarily against Robinson to effect Wilson's blindside blocking the most while Suggs will be on the other testing out the beleagued Bulaga.

As Wilson is a dual threat Kuechly will be QB spying throughout most of this game in the middle of the field to watch for Wilson runs using his vigilance and his sideline to sideline speed to keep the QB running game to a minimum if he decides to scramble with the pass rush he is facing on each play. Occasionally he will go up the middle for a designed blitz to keep Wilson guessing on the pass rush.  Harrison Smith on the flipside will be sliding over to SS this week with Budda Baker being added to the lineup in the FS position. Smith will be the RB spy throughout the game keeping Barkley in check as he plays at the LBing level. With having Kuechly, McMillan and Smith playing at the second tier it shores up a defensive front that excels already at run defense.

In passing situations, McMillan will be responsible for covering Hawaii's lone TE McDonald. (They aren't able to do much with scheme due to lack of personnel available to them at other positions.

We will be primarily be playing man coverage with Baker being in single high formation up top. Hawaii added another solid WR to their lineup in Godwin so if Godwin or Diggs switch to the slot their assigned man will follow. Heyward will shadow Diggs this game while Heyward will follow Godwin. Williams will pick up the straggle WR in Johnson/Tate depending on who is thrown into the lineup. Moseley will come in for four wide formation in replacement of McMillan. Smith in five wide if necessary but we doubt Barkley is taken off the field much.

"Elite" lol. And 2 seconds? You are freaking laughable this week.

Clark inactive.

Fackrell was the only "edge" rusher you have had listed for DE the past few weeks in the excel. (Possible thing to change during off-season) Having JPP start at DT for a great number of snaps beyond just a few is ridiculous in of itself as he is 270. Marpet (307), Glasnow (310) and Dahl (310) all out weigh the guy by nearly 40 pounds. And when you flip Landry inside because you want to be cute with the JPP strategy Landry is a 250 OLB. He is going to get pancaked by the interior oline. And against the running game, you are in essence giving up the interior run because the oline will be able to peel and let the back through. Short yardage runs are going to be damn near 100% convertible.

Glasgow, Dahl, and Marpet also account for a grand total of 3 combined sacks given up the past 8 weeks. Buckner is not going to have much push here especially without having another big body next to him taking up blocks.

There is a reason he ain't a center anymore xD

Marpet has never struggled in any position he has played in. He was their strongest interior olineman and he got moved from center to LG in order to utilize that ability.

I'm a bucs fan.  I know all about Marpet.  Same goes for Godwin and JPP (who is playing well today I might add)

Then why are you not speaking the truth on Marpet? Just because you are playing against him?

He can play center, but that is not his position and not what he is used to.  Timing will be off, blocking assignments missed, etc.

JPP plays better at DT then Marpet does at C imo.
