This is why this team is so confusing...

It’s not all that confusing. Kubiak either calls a run play, or play action to take shots down field. Where he’s failed for the most part this season, is implementing a quicker passing game and utilizing the middle of the field.

a big reason why our total offense doesn't look that impressive is because we have run the least amount of plays in the league. we have more offensive yards than the bengals in the same amount of games despite them having run more than 100 more plays than us.

it also makes you wonder how good this team could've been if the defense wasn't going through a huge transition between the youth movement and injuries.

Obviously there’s not going to be much change to the coaching staff next year, but one area where I’d like to see a change is for this team to find a more experienced QB coach/passing game coordinator.

Kubiak and Dennison absolutely know how to design a running attack, but the passing game needs a lot of help. Where’s the pre snap motion? Where are the crossing routes? Where are the intermediate routes over the middle of the field? Where’s the creativity? Why are the 3rd and 4th receivers completely non existent? Why is it so hard to get the tight end involved? Y

This passing attack took a major step backwards after losing Stefanski. That needs to get remedied.

we lead the league in net yards/attempt in the pass game. creativity is a good thing but execution that leads to (efficient) production is better. and right now our run and pass game are playing off each other perfectly.

kirk making some very questionable throws earlier in the season which led to a bunch of INTs and our propensity to run in the red zone are the two main reasons our pass offense isn't compared to the better ones in the league.

also, it's funny you mention stefanski because his team has a rush-oriented offense and his team's passing offense is bottom 10 in the league.

That’s because our passing game is built on cashing in on big plays off of play action. But it’s performed poorly when it’s been needed to sustain drives, when it hasn’t been able to use play action. They’ve attempted 34 passes in the past two weeks. That’s not complimentary football, that’s removing it from the equation.

In the games where the running game has been slowed down, they haven’t been able to maintain a passing attack, and it’s more than Cousins execution. It’s the plays put on the field, it’s the options they’ve put on the field for Cousins. The plays called, the plays designed, for the short and intermediate passing attack have not put this team in a position to succeed. It’s simply not a well designed passing game.

By what measure? DVOA?

I have no doubt things will get better on defense but I don't think average defenses make Andy Dalton look like an all star.

I watched the replay of the game.  Dalton played well...but don't talk about him like he's Mitch Trubisky.  He started for nearly a decade and had rating level named for him as the most borderline good/bad starter in the NFL for years.  He's had more than his share of moments of brilliance...mixed with his Kurt Cousins moments.  He is the original Kirk Cousins.
