A free rush is rare. Usually have to blitz/stunt for that. Or hope the offense screws up.

Gholston, Vea, and Suh take up blockers on the inside so our outside guys can get one on one matchups with OTs - and sometimes TEs. Or create the rare open gap for a LB. But their first priority is gap discipline so we can stop the run. Which is why we're the best run defense in the league.

They're not usually asked to push upfield. Otherwise Vea would probably spend 90% of his snaps in the backfield with guys all over him trying to stop an immovable force. That's what guys like McCoy do well. But you open cutback lanes for RBs. And free up guards to move to your LBs.
