Hawaii Nightmarchers

Gameplan

Motivation:  Looking for that first win against our self made rivalry against Anchorage and their coach @Counselor

Offensive Base Formation: We love the shotgun pistol formation, 2 WR split to the weak side.  TE and the other WR on the strongside. This formation gives plenty of opportunity and space for Barkley to run and Godwin and Diggs to get open for big plays.

Pistolformation1a.png

Tempo: This week we will be running normal tempo offense.  We got weapons everywhere and pro bowl blockers to help the run and pass.

Playcalling Distribution:

50% run

20% pass

20% playaction pass

10% RPO

Personnel Changes: no major changes

Running: Our team is built to run and we will continue that this week.  We return to our base formation this week and will again use the Shotgun Pistol formation.  We expect to be in our base formation 50% of the time.  We will run variants with McDonald as a motion man or bring in Mattison to be the motion man and help to be a lead blocker for SB. Being in the pistol, our runs will be spread out to both sides of the ball, keeping the Anchorage's defense off balance.  Our favorite play again this week will be Pull to Bust, which will be ran from the Shotgun Pistol formation.  It requires the TE to motion from the weak side over to the strong side and be slotted back off the line of scrimmage.

Clemson_2011_Pistol_Like_Formation.jpg

As shown above, we expect Anchorage to be playing predominantly a Nickle defense which this play will wreck them big time.  It will also work against almost anything Anchorage can throw at it.  This play is a simple run that should provide big time yardage.  The play is designed to go to the strongside as to give SB the most amount of room to make plays happen and to avoid the strength of Anchorage's defense, the interior D-line.  The whole setup starts with the back side, Yanda will cut the DT, allowing our pro bowl Center (Kelly) to pull to the right (strongside).  Scherff uses an inside move to get to the LB, while Buluga and MacDonald block down to the inside and force the DT and DE away from the edge of the line.  Scherff's goal is to get to the strongside LB and if not to seal off all other help from the inside.  Kelly rounds the edge of the line to mop up anything missed (strongside LB, DB or missed lineman).  Barkley will be off to the races over and over here.

On inside plays we plan on motioning our TE (80% of the time) or Mattison down inside and allow him to become a defacto fullback and clean up anyone left in the holes allowing SB to burst through with vengeance on his mind.  We have large and angry men up front ready to open the holes for our horse to stroll on through to the endzone.  That said, we will not be running on the inside very much, just enough to keep the D off balance.

Passing: Anchorage won't be able to stop the run and the pass, this week is gonna be fun fellas.  Having one of the best QB's in the game to throw Diggs and Godwin (both top 15 wide receivers) is going to beat a lot of people or open things up even more for SB.   Stefon Diggs pairs nicely with Godwin who leads football in TD's and has 4 150+ games himself.  We will use a bunch of crossing routes and slants early on in the game which we will shift to double moves on the outside later on and look to catch Anchorage's DB's cheating.  This is the bread and butter type of routes that Godwin was brought in to run.  Diggs has been huge at catching the deep ball and we expect a couple more of them this week.  If Anchoarage wants to double him it just leaves Godwin open to crush their spirits.  Being extremely balanced and with weapons galore, we will keep their D guessing so much that they won't be able to stop us.  If they try and load the box on early downs we will shift more to passing plays and playaction passes.  We also won't forget about Barkely here, getting him in screens and check downs will be the key to keeping the chains moving.

Playaction and RPO's: we will be using these to catch Anchorage crowding the box and cheating up to help stop Barkley.  Diggs and Godwin are ready to burn Anchorage when they load up and jump in to stop Barkley.   We will also use our slot receiver to sprinkle in the RPO's as the linebackers start to cheat more and more to help try and stop Barkley.

Defense Base Formation: 4-3 defense, switching to Nickel in passing downs and dependent upon ingame situations. We will also use more 4-4 sets on running downs and short yardage plays.

pict-american-football-positions-diagram

Formation usage:

4-3: 50%

Nickel: 25%

4-4: 25%

Defensive Base coverages:

Cover 3 - 33%

Quarters - 33%

Tampa 2 - 33%

Personnel Changes:  This week we will be playing JPP strictly on the inside at DT.  He is 6-5 270 and has enough beef and shakes to be a beast there.  Landry will stick to backup DE and 4-4/backup LB

Playstyle: We have addressed our front line personnel,  as for the coverage, we will be playing this game entirely in zone as we don't believe Cousins is consistent enough to throw the ball successfully to very poor WR's.  Clowney, Clark, JPP and the LB's will have a field day with getting to Cousins.  We will look to switch our coverage up a lot and try and fool him pre-snap and confuse him enough to allow our all-pro edge rusher or blitzing LB to get pressure on him and get the sack.

As for Ingram.  We will be sticking to our 4-3 D and using our 4-4 run stopping D to stuff him at the line with our strongest asset taking over the game.  Run blitzes early and often will help to combat anything they may get from Ingram.  Anchorage will have no chance to beat us with the run and their passing game will struggle against our zone defense when Cousins doesn't have time to sit in the pocket and throw.

Tl;dr: Riding Barkley early but switching to our passing game to keep things balanced and Anchorage guessing.  This week we will feature our outside run Pull to Bust and focus our runs to the outside.  T and TE block down, the frontside G seals off the inside LB's, while the C pulls to mop up anything that got through, and the backside cut block.  Against the Nickel D this play will be huge.  Once they are in shock from Barkley and our WR's, we hit em with the playaction bombs to Diggs and Godwin and screens and check downs to Barkley.  Defense will be predominately 4-3 zone, Nickle zone D, or 4-4 (on early downs and running situations).  Running entirely zone this week to help our DB's and keep any advantage they might have from surfacing.

We fight until the end...... A hiki i ka hopena!!!!!!!

@ Anchorage Wolves

Team:

Back to the L column last week against Berlin. We look to beat up on Hawaii and the Pickled Orcas as we do not want to be the team to give them their first win.

Offensive Formations: (2RB 40%, 2TE 30%, 3 Wide 20%, 4 Wide 10%)

Our base offense this week will be the 2 Back set utilizing our fullback 40% of the offensive plays followed by the 2TE set 30% of the plays. We utilize more than 2 Wide only 30% this week as we want to ball control and attack in the middle of the Hawaii defense that is their weak point. We still utilize 30% with three or more receivers to spread them out and not let them key in on one thing.

Offensive Plan of Attack:

We will be looking to pound the rock against Hawaii. They are playing some undersized players out of position on their dline and we want to take advantage of the run blocking of our line. We will utilize the Fullback Alec Ingold as a lead blocker 40% of our plays. We will run power run concepts out of these formations at them with some pulling from our guards also to allow us to attack the edges. Other plays we will slam the ball inside. We want to control the clock and keep the ball out of the hands of Russell Wilson and that very talented offense. We will bring in Dawson Knox as TE2 on 30% of the plays and utilize his run blocking (2nd highest run blocking grade for TE who have played 300 snaps or more this season) to provide us another player on the line of scrimmage to help seal the edge and combo block for our power game with our Tackles. We will use TE1 Noah Fant in the same way. When we are in 3W and 4W sets we will look to run zone running concepts to take advantage of multiple holes and a moving offensive line to ride out a spread out D and gash them inside or bounce outside if they crash down against a smaller box. A 50/40/10 split again with Ingram, Pollard, and Lewis will be the RB rotation.

We will vary our route tree and attack their defense at multiple levels. If we see mismatches where LBers are trying to cover receivers we will take advantage of those matchups. We will use our TE on drags and crossers to get them in space. We want to give Fant opportunities to utilize his speed in the open field. We will also feature seam stretching routes for him to get up top on the defense. We will use Sammy Watkins’ speed to attack deep on some plays while running him on slants and other intermediate routes on others. We will use Tyler Boyd to work the middle of the field with his route running prowess. Our 3rd receiver is Zach Pascal and our 4th is Nelson Agholor. In 4W Agholor will be playing the other slot. Boyd moves into the slot on 3 and 4 Wide sets. In our 2 TE sets we will utilize crossers from our TE to drag coverages

Cousins will be under center 70% of this game. We will utilize motions with our Receivers or Tight Ends to determine the Hawaii coverages. Cousins will once again have the call to shift line protection and call hot routes for our RB coming out of the backfield or have him stay into block. If they get aggressive with blitzing we will run some screens.

Defensive Formations:

Our Base D will be a nickel this week against any 3 wide sets and a 4-3 under against any 2 wide and less sets. Mychal Kendricks will be our SLB in 4-3 sets. Vernon Hargreaves will come in against four wide sets as the dime. Against an empty set Sean-Murphy Bunting comes into the game replacing Landon Collins, and plays up over the fifth receiving option. In Nickel and Dime sets we will again have Landon Collins plays up in the box. Ronnie Harrison starts at free safety. We will use Uchenna Nwosu as a stand up rusher against clear passing situations. We will play Derek Wolfe inside with Javon Hargrave, and Trey Flowers or Hubbard (depending on who could use a breather) will be at LE with Nwosu as the stand up Right Edge.

Defensive Plan of Attack:

We are playing one heck of an offensive attack. We will again mix our coverages between Man/Single High, Cover 2, and Cover 3. Landon Collins will peel out to their Cover 2 assignment if we are playing that coverage against the three wide or four wide sets. In man against a 3W, 2RB set, Schobert has the FB or Second RB, Landon Collins has the RB, and Jamie Collins has Middle zone or Blitz. Against the 3W, 1TE, 1RB set, Jamie Collins has RB, Landon Collins has TE, and Joe Schobert has Double TE with L. Collins or Blitz. We will cheat Ronnie Harrison in his zone to Bashaud Breeland’s side.

We face the RB King this week in Barkley. We will not stray from out gap discipline which we run week in and week out. It’s our best brand of football. We will have Vita Vea two gap both A gaps. Javon Hargrave will have B gap to TE side. Joe Schobert will opposite B gap. Sam Hubbard will have right side C gap, and Landon Collins will have outside contain or D gap to the TE/Strong Side. Trey Flowers will have Left Side C gap, CGJ will have Outside Contain or D gap on that side. Jamie Collins will have spill inside to outside chase. So he will fill any holes from inside out that aren’t getting clogged if my Dline is getting beat. If we are in the 4-3 Vea has two gap both A gaps, Hargrave has strong side B gap, Schobert has opposite B gap, Both ends have C gaps, Kendricks and J. Collins have outside contain or D gaps and L. Collins has free range to chase the ball carrier. We will rotate our DT’s with Ed Oliver subbing in for Hargrave and Foley Fatukasi subbing in for Vita Vea, to keep our interior fresh. Derek Wolfe will see some UT and LE snaps as well giving Hubbard a rest at LE. Nwosu will come in for some plays as Stand up Right Edge giving Flowers a breather.

In our zone we will mix up blitzes between Jamie Collins and Joe Schobert. In man against a 3W-2RB set Collins will be the blitzer and against 3-1-1 Schobert will be the blitzer. They won’t blitz every play but these are the players that will be sent in these different sets when we do blitz. We will once again press in every coverage to give the same looks.

Go Wolves!
