You'll have to buy a subscription (100% worth it btw) if you want to read it, but Sturm has some less than flattering remarks for the defense. Smith and LVE in particular.

We were under the impression that a real weakness of this team – linebacker – had become a strength with the rise of Vander Esch and Smith. They were both voted by their peers as top-100 players this summer. To have them both at this age on the same team should make the good times roll. Furthermore, your best linebacker for the decade is now your third-best? Imagine when they could all be on the field together! What a dominant defense this should be.

Well, we are starting to see that we better hold the phone on those declarations and projections. The Cowboys’ linebacker problem does not appear to be fixed.

The Vikings administered some big-boy football across the board on Sunday night, and the Cowboys did not answer the challenge very well. We always try not to overreact, but in light of how they lost a home game to Green Bay in similar fashion that we all shrugged off as a turnover anomaly, seeing the defense overrun again while the offense played turnover-free football (until the Hail Mary) is quite disappointing.

This should not happen. Credit the Vikings, but their entire offensive line is thought to be inferior to what Dallas has and seldom gets mentioned for being anything more than mediocre across the board. With no Thielen and no downfield passes, this should not and cannot happen.

But it did.

Again.

On the season, Leighton Vander Esch has been charged with 11 missed tackles to lead the team, while Jaylon Smith has nine of the Cowboys’ 68. The only way a running back beats you all night is if you don’t make your tackles, and the film will reveal that as a reality.

Only four plays over 20 yards and only one to a wide receiver will once again signal the Cowboys’ disturbing performances with broken tackles and over-pursuit. They were charged with 12 broken tackles against the Vikings, which was the second-most all year. (Somehow, they managed to miss 18 tackles against Green Bay in Week 5.).

This has been mentioned before a few times this season, missed tackles and poor angles have been an issue.

Everyone will blame it on a lack of NT/1T. But that wasnt the case. Especially on the screens where the DT's are essentially negated completely. Our LBs this game, the Packers game, the Rams game just straight missed. They whiffed. They attempted arm tackles. They dove at legs.

My gut feeling is we are attempting to go the Pete Carroll/Rugby tackle that is all the rage. But step 1 in tackling someone has and will always be positioning. We are often not in position to make a play.

“After the play, [Frederick] was like, ‘What are we doing here!? Why are you running this!?’” Odenigbo said with a laugh. “And I’m just celebrating. And saying, ‘Ha, ha.’ And he’s just yelling, ‘Why are we doing this!?’ Ah man, it was just a great feeling.”

As for those final two red-zone runs, Barr said he and Kendricks both read run pre-snap and alerted the front line.

“The Cowboys show tips,” Barr said. “They’re real heavy in their stances, how they set. Usually, Eric and I have a good feel for that as the game goes on. Whether the linemen are setting heavy or light. Little things like that.”

^^^^^^For those that caught y question in the gameday thread the next day....that is what I was referring to. To lazy to find a gif of it but you could just literally see the body language and arms go up like WTF. Just as Odenibo said and described.

Hard to keep head but can't help but feel ish about to implode or explode. Either way not good.
