Replacing Hard Rock Stadium

Recommended Posts

The stadium is over 30 years old, one of the oldest in the NFL. And at least one venue which was younger, the Georgia Dome, no longer exists.

While the stadium has been renovated numerous times, weather is still a major factor in Dolphins home games. Sunday afternoon home games can get so hot that the Dolphins unlike most teams wear their road jerseys at home. And when it is not so hot sometimes rain can make the stadium very muddy. It ruined the experience for some people who were at Super Bowl XLI.

So, what should happen is that a stadium with a retractable roof be built, like the Cardinals did with State Farm Stadium over a decade ago. After moving into that stadium, the Cardinals began wearing their actual home jerseys almost all the time, because the roof would usually be closed, opening occasionally for a night game (but not always).

The Dolphins would similarly benefit from moving into a retractable roof stadium. They could wear their actual home jerseys almost all the time, still probably wear the road ones for home games against the Cowboys (because of the blue jersey jinx).

Look, the decision about the stadium has to be made by alot of people with alot of vested interests.  But IMO, I like the Phins having a home field advantage tied to the heat and humidity.  Other teams wilt while the good guys in white stay strong.

Embrace your conditions to be a home field advantage. The Packers and Bears have dominated NFC north for decades because the Lions and Vikings have got soft playing indoors in the winter

Dang, I remember when it was announced they were building their current stadium and I was sad, thinking "well what's wrong with the Orange Bowl?"
