Seoul Dragons

Offense

This week we are going with a pass heavier offense than usual. Anchorage DL is very good against the run but we don’t fear their pass rush, and our OL is pretty good in pass protection. If Okung is out Penn slides in at RT but we aren’t too worried.

We like out matchups man to man for Tyrell, Kelce and Everett and will target them a bunch. However, we expect Anchorage to come out with some zone looks. As often, we will motion our weapons around to have a better idea pre-snap of what Anchorage has in store for us. If it’s zone we will try to either flood a zone or target corner routes with Kelce and Everett, which should be fairly effective. If it’s man, then we will run a bunch of deep routes with our three aforementioned weapons to get big plays. In both cases the key will be to let the play develop so it will be crucial for our OL to hold on. Reiter will be responsible for blitz pickups and, if needed, Drake can stay in pass pro as well. We will also have some bootleg passes prepared for Kyler.

As stated before, Anchorage DL is very good against the run so we don’t expect a bunch of success there. What we will do instead is involve Drake through screens, pitches as well as some QB runs with Kyler and some QB run options as well. We want to test that back 7 athleticism in the running game by going around the DL. We will also use some 6OL formations with Nsekhe in for Crowder to run those kind of plays.

Defense

Anchorage success on offense is often based on their ability to run the ball. Our priority will be to stop that and if they line up with 2 outside receivers, we expect to have 8 men in the box on all snaps. We will also have a lot of heavier packages as listed in our line up for those heavy package Anchorage usually runs. In the end, Edmunds will be keying on Ingram and responsible for him in the running and the passing game.

In pass defense, we will be very aggressive with our blitzes this week, often sending 5 or even 6 men to attack Cousins. Cousins is known for not doing well under pressure, and we want him to feel that rush evert snap. We will be playing man coverage mostly, with some zone cover 3 looks with the following assignments:

Wallace for Watkins

Williams for Boyd

Wilson for Fant

Thompson for the FB

Edmunds for Ingram

If Anchorage goes 3WR, then we will sub out Collins for Darby, Darby getting Watkins, Wallace getting Boyd and Williams getting Pascal.

Anchorage Wolves

eam:

Well we gave Hawaii their first win. That’s quite disappointing. Hopefully we will do better here down the stretch. We welcome the Tanking Teds to Anchorage this week so we won’t get that teams full effort but we will still give ours to pummel those pansies into the dirt.

Offensive Formations: (2RB/2TE 30%, 2RB 25%, 2TE 25%, 3 Wide 20%)

We aren’t going to stray from what we believe our teams strength is. That strength is our running game and now that Fant has shown up, our TE’s taking advantage of mismatches with reliable steady receiver play from Boyd and friends. We don’t have many big play threats but we have reliable weapons and we will play to our strengths with ball control offense and time of possession. Our base this week is something we haven’t rolled out yet. It will be a 2 Back/2 TE set utilizing our fullback and an additional TE 30% of the offensive plays, followed by the 2TE set 25% of the plays and our traditional 2RB set with our Fullback 25% of the plays as well. This leaves us with our 3wide as the remaining 20%, which we will mix in throughout the game to spread them out and not let them key in on one thing.

Offensive Plan of Attack:

We will be looking to run the ball 60 percent of the time in this game and control the clock. We will mix up some zone blocking scheme on some plays and some power man blocking scheme on others against the Seoul front to create confusion and provide a variance of attack. Last week Seoul mentioned the left side of their D-line was more geared to stopping the run and that they would stunt and spot blitz. We will run at both sides of their D-line including the middle, however if we see a heavy emphasis placed on stopping the run on their left side of the line we will run heavily at their right side. If they are going to stunt and spot blitz on that left side we will run some counters to attack behind those stunts and blitzes and take advantage of a thinned out second level. We will have a 50/40/10 split once again with Ingram, Pollard, and Lewis. Alec Ingold will be a big part of our offense this week as a lead blocker and 2-3 plays as a receiver out of the backfield. One area where he has really excelled in his rookie year is pass protection and he will be used primarily in that role during pass plays out of our 2RB/2TE and 2RB/2WR set. This will allow us a safety net as we utilize our Main RB as a pass catcher out of the back field attacking the short areas of the field on swings and arrows. We will slide protection to the heavier blitzing side if we see Seoul is favoring this approach throughout the game.

We are going to heavily utilize our tight ends in the passing game this week. Both are athletic specimens that we will use to attack the defense in multiple ways. We will use them at times to stretch the seams, sometimes at the same time, or alternating while the other attacks the intermediate portions of the field, we will bring them on drags and crossers and utilize play action and roll outs based off of our heavy run game plan. We will utilize both as edge sealers or second level blockers in the run game. We will at times motion them out to create different looks against their defense if we see something we like. Creating either a three wide look or four wide look but with one or both TE in the slot. Or even motioning them out and then bringing them back inline. An example of how we can utilize this is if they are loading a heavy box we can use the TE to spread them out and have two big bodied blockers in our slot if we run or have a mismatch if we audible to pass.

We will involve Tyler Boyd on slants and drags as well as some deeper shots. In our 2TE/2WR or 2RB/2WR sets Sammy Watkins comes in the game and we will utilize his speed to stretch the field. In three wide sets Zach Pascal plays as the X and Boyd moves into the slot. We will utilize this formation to spread out the defense and attack pockets in zone and identify key matchups against man.

Cousins will be under center 80% of this game. Cousins will once again have the call to shift line protection and call hot routes and audibles after using motions. We want to control as much clock as we can and Cousins will utilize the time on the clock in the following order of events. Analyzing formation and personnel of the defense, motioning out our TE’s to determine coverage and possible blitzes, and making audibles if we get a preferred matchup in either the passing or running game. This will utilize a lot of time and help us slow down and control the game and time of possession.

When we are winning by a large margin we will let Dwayne Haskins get some burn to get some experience primarily handing off the ball and wearing the game down as well as a couple high percentage passes on roll outs and bootlegs.

Defensive Formations:

Seoul is known for a two TE set, however they have an injury to Austin Hooper. They may still run this formation with Gerald Everett (they won’t be able to run the 3TE set they ran last week as they only have two healthy TE on the roster) but they may also throw several different formations at us so we will be ready for them all. Against their two TE set we will run a 3 safety look, however our third safety is somewhat like a nickel corner/safety hybrid in Chauncey Gardner-Johnson. Landon Collins plays down in the box with Jamie Collins and Joe Schobert at LBer and Ronnie Harrison as our FS. Sean Murphy-Bunting gets the start this week outside with Chidobe Awuzie. Our starting Dline will consist of Trey Flowers at RE, Sam Hubbard at LE, Vita Vea at NT, and Javon Hargrave at UT. We will run a healthy D-line rotation inside with Ed Oliver subbing in at UT and Foley Fatukasi subbing in at NT. We will bring in a pass rush front against 3rd and long or clear passing situations. This front will consist of Jordan Jenkins as a Standup RE, Trey Flowers at LE, Derek Wolfe at UT, and Javon Hargrave at NT. Against a 2RB/2TE formation we will run a 4-3 with Mychal Kendricks coming in for CGJ. Against a 4wide we will play strictly zone as we line up Landon Collins against the second slot option. We want our best players on the field and we will be leaving both Schobert and Jamie Collins in against the 4 wide.

Defensive Plan of Attack:

We are playing against a mobile rookie QB this week who has looked pretty good. We will mix our coverages between Cover 2 (40%) Cover 3 (40%) Man/Single High (20%). The only formation that can alter the percentage is if Seoul plays a 4 wide which we will play Cover 2 and 3 against only. Once again Landon Collins will peel out to his Cover 2 assignment if we are playing that coverage against a two tight set, 3 wide set, and 4 wide sets. We want to play more zone this week to keep eyes forward against a QB who can take off and run at any time. We will play press again in every coverage as we really like the size and strength of our corners to be physical. This also buys time for Landon to drop to that Cover 2 coverage when he is in the box. In man against a 3W, 2RB set, Schobert has the FB or Second RB, Landon Collins has the RB, and Jamie Collins has Qb Spy or Blitz. Against the 3W, 1TE, 1RB set, Jamie Collins has RB, Landon Collins has TE, and Joe Schobert has QB Spy or Blitz. Against a 2TE set in man, CGJ has a TE, Landon Collins has a TE, Schobert has the RB, and Jamie Collins has QB Spy or Blitz.

Gap Discipline will be key against not allowing any big plays from Drake or Murray with his legs. We will have Vita Vea two gap both A gaps. Javon Hargrave will have B gap to Strong Side/TE side. Joe Schobert will opposite B gap. Sam Hubbard will have right side C gap, and Landon Collins will have outside contain or D gap to the TE/Strong Side. Trey Flowers will have Left Side C gap, CGJ will have Outside Contain or D gap on that side. Jamie Collins will have spill inside to outside chase. So he will fill any holes from inside out that aren’t getting clogged if my Dline is getting beat. If we are in the 4-3 Vea has two gap both A gaps, Hargrave has strong side B gap, Schobert has opposite B gap, Both ends have C gaps, Kendricks and J. Collins have outside contain or D gaps and L. Collins has free range to chase the ball carrier.

We want to bring a fifth rusher about 50% of the time to rattle the rookie QB. In our zone we will mix up blitzes between Jamie Collins and Joe Schobert, and when we are not blitzing we will have a QB spy. When we do blitz, in man against a 3W-2RB set Collins will be the blitzer and against 3-1-1 Schobert will be the blitzer. Against a 4Wide Jamie Collins will be the blitzer alternating gaps each time.

Go Wolves!

Honestly, I really like the dual threat QB here of Kyler Murray and his rushing attack of Kenyan Drake as well as the WR/TE combinations better than that of Anchorage.

Anchorage really lacks a defensive secondary capable of containing Kelce and Williams.

I think The Seoul Pass rush is going to terrorize the Left side of Anchorages offensive line and Ronnie Staley has proven very capable of being able to be a legit blocker for mobile QBs this season so despite the quality of the DL for Anchorage, I think they're going to struggle to get to Murray.

I like Seoul here in the upset 17-10 (plus tanking is wrong)

He’s playing Grady Jarrett at RE and while Jarrett is a great player he is out of position. Don’t see how they are going to terrorize my left side of my line. Also I have a spy or blitz after Murray on every play. 50% blitz and 50% spy. I think we can contain him and get the extra pressure this way.

Both teams coming out with some non traditional offensive lineups, but as much as Ted prepared a slightly different game plan than normal I think Anchorage actually prepped pretty well for it. Two gapping and playing contain on Murray to limit his ground damage was smart IMO.

Love what Kyler's been doing this year but I think at the BDL level, even with some good pieces that Seoul O needs a bit more to win consistently. Anchorage aren't exactly going to light up the scoreboard either, but that offense can sustain some drives and get some field goals.

Defensively both secondaries have some major weaknesses which should be exploited despite the lack of weapons. Probably a few guys that shouldn't necessarily be starting in the BDL for both but overall decent enough units.

I think Anchorage with home advantage, the level Cousins is playing at and their efforts to stop Kyler are what gives them the edge. Anchorage 19-13.
