The premier game of the weekend. Two teams that are a combined 17-3.

It's also a rivalry that goes back a couple decades. The niners seemingly couldn't beat the Packers in the 90s (Brett favre was 14-1 against the niners in his career, with the only loss coming on the Catch 2) and Jim harbaugh/Kaepernick went 4-0 against the packers, with two wins in the playoffs in 2012 and 2013.

These two teams also played last year on MNF, a very close game in lambeu that the niners let slip away when CJ beathard turned the ball over (twice?) in the fourth quarter.

The niners defense has been dominant, but has two key contributors out for this game. DE Dee Ford hasn't been healthy all year, he has a problem with his knee. Despite that, he has been incredibly efficient while rushing the passer. He is out this week with a hamstring injury. The niners are also missing one of the top ILB in the NFL in Kwon Alexander. He gave this defense a playmaker in the middle of the field, who was elite in coverage (both on TEs and RBs) and was getting his hands on the football often. He has missed the last two games with a season ending torn pec. Additionally, the niners also lost their 3rd edge rusher for the season in Ronald Blair, and recently signed damontre Moore will probably get a lot of Dee Fords work at DE on third downs.

With that being said, the niners defense still has elite talent on the field. Deforest Buckner (traditionally a slow starter who gets better and better as the season goes on) has started to dominate on the inside again. Arik armstead is having a career year in a contract year and has been an absolute terror from the jump this year. His hand fighting skills combined with incredible length make him hard to block. Nick bosa is the DROY by a landslide. Teams have started to chip him a ton and he is still good for 2-3 TFL per week. Elite run defender as well as a pass rusher. We should also be getting back DJ Jones at NT this week, who quickly making a name for himself with his strength and quickness. He moves in space like few other NTs can and is stout at the POA.

The niners back end has been playing lights out  Sherman is still Sherman and is moving waaay better than he was last year. On the other side, we have two young corners in Emmanuel Mosley and ahkelo Witherspoon who both have good length and technique. All three of our outside corners matchup well with davante adams. We also have one of the better slot corners in the league (if not the best this season) in Kwon Williams. Tartt is one of the best in the box SSs in the league and his hs teammate Jimmie ward has been playing mistake free football.

So, should be tough sledding for Rodgers and company on Sunday.

The niners are going to be playing this game without Joe Staley who is being replaced by 6th round rookie Justin skule. Staley has been injured most of the season and skule has been playing ok. Some ups and downs but overall solid. He and the rest of the OL will be tested this week with the Smith brothers coming to town.

Jimmy g has been fighting a lot of pressure the last few weeks but he has done a good job getting the ball out. He seems to be good for one dumb turnover a game, so that is something to be aware of. 3 of our top skill position players are questionable: kittle, Emanuel Sanders, and deebo Samuel. Then our best running back, Matt breida, is doubtful. The niners are very thin at WR, if both Sanders and samuel don't play then it will be very hard to throw the ball. Sanders has a rib injury and Samuel has a shoulder injury. Dante Pettis is a scrub and Marquis Goodwin hasnt been a good wr since 2017, so the health of those two WRs is something to watch before and during the game.

Who ya got?

EDIT: I made the thread/poll while traveling and the time zones didn't translate well. Tried to add another poll after the fact but it was closed as well. Sorry

8-2? They are pretty good, even though their D is not too good

They’ve played a weak schedule, played 6/10 games at home, and were directly handed a win by the officials in a blow out loss to the Lions. I’m not even sure if they beat the Panthers with neutral officiating. They barely beat the Vikings at home before the Vikings made their changes, and barely beat the Chiefs without Mahomes.

Otherwise, their wins have been against Chicago, Oakland, Denver, and Dallas.

They have been incredibly lucky this season, not good.

Packers have the 9th overall strength of schedule and the 3rd best in the NFC.

49ers have the 30th overall strength of schedule and the 2nd worst in the NFC.

If lucky gets you 8-2, I'll take it.

What SOS metrics are you using? Is it based on record from last year? DVOA of this year? Something else? Because last I heard 49ers have the hardest schedule to finish the year from now. I think that is DVOA based on this year up to this past week. No way they've played a 30th ranked schedule this year with the opponents left on their slate.

BTW, I don't think the Packers are frauds at all. 8th ranked in DVOA. They're a good team.
