This was inspired by @MKnight82's Bengals rebuild, I've always wanted to do one of these things. This will really kick off in December but I've got some down time for the holiday and have been eager to get this started.

I'll be going back in time for this one, to August 11th, 2011... I'm going to do my best to get Larry a Super Bowl ring.

  • Team: 2011 Arizona Cardinals
    • Rated 70 Overall, good for 32nd in the NFL
    • $29,710,000 in cap room
  • Coach: Ken Whisenhunt (3-4 Defense)
    • Went 5-11 in 2010 with Derek Anderson (9 games),  John Skelton (4 games) and Max Hall (3 games) at QB.

Top 5 Players: (as of Preseason Week 1)
WR - Larry Fitzgerald (96)
SS - Adrian Wilson (92)
RE - Darnell Dockett (89)
K - Jay Feely (89)
FS - Kerry Rhodes (88)
+ Rookie RB - Ryan Williams (89?) (If I remember correctly, the rookie ratings are revealed more as the preseason winds down. I don't think Ryan Williams is really an 89 rating RB, but that would be a big boost to this team)

Settings: (settings relevant to a Sim Franchise)
Injuries: On
Pre Existing Injuries: Off (ain't starting with no gd injuries)
Salary Cap: On
Trade Deadline: On
Edit Player: On (to change positions when needed)

Would love to hear from guys who played a lot of Madden 12, I barely remember it. Anything unique to this game that will be important to know moving forward? Does one style of roster get treated better than others by the RNG Super Sim Monster?

I'll spend some time this evening and tomorrow night running some simulations in a lab franchise, that will give me a better idea of what direction I want to go with this.

Same.  I know 13 was where the read option was super overpowered.  But 12 I’m drawing a blank.

‘12 was actually a pretty decent game and pretty balanced. All of them are terrible from a franchise perspective but Madden 10 and Madden 12 both had solid gameplay. Madden 11 offense was juiced to the gils, Madden 13 the read option among other things. Madden 12 was actually the last solid installment (gameplay wise).

Larry gon’ be dead before Cardinals are rebuilt.

he's only 28 in this game... thinking i've got a minimum of 4 more years with him... maybe up to 5-6 if the CPU loves me (i have no idea how retirement is decided in this game)

***Spoiler Alert***

Rookie RB Ryan Williams isn't an 89 overall. Sad day.

These are the guys I know will be a big part of the rebuild. Hopefully I can add another name or two to the list if/when someone breaks out this year.

FB - A Sherman
WR - L Fitzgerald
RG - D Lutui
RT - B Keith
LE - C Campbell
DT - D Williams
CB - D Rodgers- Cromartie
CB - P Peterson

I have my work cut out for me offensively. Need a LT for the OL to even be functional. I don't have a standout at RB or TE and WR is garbagio outside of the man himself. Oh yeah, and a quarterback... I also need one of those.

I think the defense could be a quick turn around if I can land a high end pass rusher (I'll need a good clean up guy across from him) and I solidify the stand up linebackers with some youth. Usually in Madden I go with a 4-3 defense. Not sure how this will work since I think my defense is attached to my coach. I may have to adapt to a 3-4. Hopefully the Sim Computer is OK with 3-4 defenses.

I've identified a few guys I think I can trade away too, just off the bat. There may be others as I dig into the roster and find guys who just don't fit the scheme.

SS - A Wilson (31 years old) .... he's a box safety. I think he's replaceable in a rebuild and he's got good value to a contender who needs help there.
RE - D Dockett (30 years old) ... I think this is going to be a 2-3 year turnaround. I could get some great compensation for a guy entering the twilight of his career playing at a very high level.

I may trade guys like J Porter, C Haggans, B Robinson at the deadline to contenders who have injuries, but they probably don't have a ton of value.

1) Looks like QBs with big arms are treated well by the CPU, guys you would be more likely consider "rhythm passers" do alright, but they tend to throw more INTs. I'll run a few more seasons this week to verify, then I'll decide what kind of players I'm gonna need for my system.

2) Looks like "Coach Mode" is a thing. If I don't take control of the QB after a snap, the CPU will take over the play for me. Defense works the same way, the CPU will take over the player if you don't take over the controls at the snap. I might try this for preseason games to get a better feel for my team. No idea if this is a good idea or not, but if it works out well and doesn't affect the simulation I might do divisional home games like this, cause that would be fun.

First phase of roster turnover... just removing a few guys I know don't fit my team and signing some of the younger FAs that are available.

  Arizona Arrivals   Arizona Departures
POS Name OVR Age   POS Name OVR Age   Signing
  DT T Harris 84 26   HB A Smith 58 24   Cut
  SS B McGowan 75 26   FB C Ali 61 27   Trade
  LG R Wells 81 29   TE M Leach 68 34   Retirment
  CB E Hobbs 77 27   RE K Dykes 57 26

Really excited about Tommie Harris. He's been in the league for 6 years at this point and is coming off his worst season in Chicago. But Madden don't care about all that, he's an 84 overall DT and only 26.

McGowan will be insurance in case I trade away SS - Adrian Wilson. He's a little younger than the depth I have there already. However, he's slow as heck.

Wells will help stabilize the offensive line, so if a grab a QB somehow at least I'll have a better chance to see what they can do behind a functional line.

I noticed one of my depth CBs (Toler, I think) that should actually see the field was incredibly slow, grabbed Hobbs who is sitting at a perfectly acceptable 90 speed. Someone will end up getting cut.
