Idk, you get a better coach and he can evaluate the recruiting better than what Kelly has done, at least better than recently. I don’t think Kelly is that good of a coach. Pierce also spent a year with Lewis with the Redskins, so has a familiarity with the defensive scheme. I hadn't followed Pierce but it seems that he is a rising star in the college coaching ranks.
