Hungary Hippos

Offense:
This week we want to change every one of Berlin's pre-expectations. That starts with the changing of QB. In walks mobile QB  Jameis Winston. Winston is 2nd in total yards, 6th in TD passes (and yes first in INTs though to be fair 7 happened over a two game span and he has kept them to a low roar).
Winston absolutely excels at medium and long throws as he has a big arm. To give him more impact long we are setting him up with two things.

1. We are coming out in a split back backfield.
2 . Utilize RPO and play action.

By using a split back set we have put three players on the field that are going to have to be accounted for by their LBing and safeties. In a similar situation last week, Kazee was put on double duty. Play in the box against the run and cover the TE. With two RBs on the field his focus will be split further. Will it be a run down the middle with Fournette, a pitchout to Mostert, does Winston fake and run it himself or while he is watching the runners with the fakes does he allow Doyle to run a seam route down the middle of the field where again Winston excels in throwing. By splitting his focus with fake exchanges we will constantly make the safety second guess every play.

By utilizing the RPO we will constantly be able to keep Berlin guessing on what actions Hungary will be taking each play. With a healthy triple threat at RB any RB in the offense is capable of logging over a hundred yards on the ground. There will be no ckewr favirute with carries this week. By having two on the field it causes the defense to try to predict which side to flow to on any given play. If Berlin sports the 5-2 from a week ago and with Kazee pulling double duty we should be able to pick up good chunk yardage off the edge and up the middle. Having 8 or 10 preordained QB runs with no one accounting for a mobile QB will also allow us to pick up some yardage especially on delayed runs.

It sets up the passing offense nicely especially for DK who will be fed the ball today especially if lined up on Murphy. Larry and Sanu will split reps and get some passes in the medium to long range as well. We will use the play action frequently to go deep against Berlin's secondary.

Mostert and Fournette can be flexed out on any given play to diagnose man vs zone defense.

We will also sport some 3WR and 4 WR looks sporadically throughout the game with Larry and Slayton.

Defense:
Notes: As BCB pointed out again last week Berlin's offensiveline especially the left side continues to be a weak point for Berlin.

Jones and Johnson have been inconsitent. Jones has broken 70 yards once in the past 7 games. Johnson is now an after thought which leaves Guice as their true threat at RB still.

In addition Fuller is projected to be out, Brown is still really a boom or bust player (crossed 50 yards once in the past 8 weeks)band Kirk has poofed since his big game against the Bucs (predictably).

So what are we going to do?

We are going to make Berlin one dimensional. We are going to stop the run while keeping the pass rush flowing.

This week we will have an 8 man box. Greenlaw, McMillan and Kuechly are  stellar run defenders. With Moving up in the box will be slotted between Greenlaw and Kuechly to help stuff the inside run while Greenlaw and McMillan set the edge.

Running with an 8 man box will not give Berlin the running room they seek. Al Woods will come on for Allen in less than 4 yard situations. It also helps us set up the second piece.

We will be having a four man pass rush but also have a situational 5th man slot in. What this looks like is one of the LBers, Smith or even a corner will be blitzing Tom on any given play. If the CB blitzes Griffins side, Smith will slide to cover. If a LBer blitzes, coverage responsibility goes to Smith again. Smith will also blitz.

With the interior and left side being weak points, look for the 5th man to crash off the edge (CB) or down the middle (LB/SS) to make Brady guess where the pressure is coming from.

We will mix zone and man coverages. When in man Hayward will have Golloday with Baker defending overtop to remove Berlin's top threat. Griffin will have Brown/Kirk in 2WR, Kuechly will get Henry, Greenlaw will have Smith, McMillan the RB.

3 wide Williams comes on for McMillan while greenlaw takes the Rb, 4 wide Moseley will take MVS.

When in zone CBs maintain the edge while the OLBs will go to the flats and Kuechly and Smith cover the middle. Budda will play deep but shaded towards Golloday again.

This third reunion will be one for the record books.

Berlin Blitzkrieg

Motivation
Tom Brady has home-field advantage throughout the playoffs and we look forward to our first ever playoff game in Berlin.  If we have a 3rd and 1 or 4th and 1, Brady will use his QB sneak skills to get us a first down.  We want to extend drives and Brady is motivated to do so.

Offense
Run Game - We will rotate Jones and Guice on a regular basis.  Guice will be used a bit more frequently on earlier downs as a battering ram.  Jones will be in for most third downs to make use of his pass catching ability.  We will run both of them as frequently as possible.  Look for a number of off tackle runs as we want to use our TEs to help us block and both our OTs are athletic and very capable of sealing the edge or pulling while our TEs crash down.  Our bread and butter this game will be the off tackle stretch to allow our RBs to hit the edge and turn up while giving them the ability to cut back.  When Guice is in, we will run a bit more inside to keep Hungary honest.  While Jones is in, look for some more counters and draws.  Both RBs will get some passes, but Jones will get more targets.

2 TE - 60% - This is going to be our main set for this game.  We want to force Hungary to put 3 LBs on the field to defend the run game as they are inexperienced outside of Kuechly.  If they go with a 3 safety set, we will run as much as possible to take advantage of the smaller player.  Either way, we believe this set gives us an advantage.  Look for us to move one of our TEs across the formation or into the backfield(usually Irv here) to get a numbers advantage or show Brady coverage pre-snap.

Our WRs are going to use a lot of slants, hooks, and crossers in this set to give Brady quick reads to get the ball out.  We are going to target our TEs, especially Hunter, frequently if they are single covered.  This quick passing attack will be used to compliment the run game.  Off of this, we will use play action and double moves to stretch the defense vertically.

If we go deep, one of the TEs will stay in to block while the other TE and Jones will serve as check down options.

3 WR - 20% - This will be our second most frequent set.  We will have Golladay, Kirk, and Marquise with Hunter.  We will use motion to give Brady pre-snap info.  We want to use mostly quick slants, hooks, and crossers to allow Brady to read and react.  Look for some WR screens, end arounds, and jet sweeps to Kirk or Marquise to make their D defend the width of the field.  However, we will have plays drawn up to have our guys push deep on occasion and let Brady just throw it up.  Hunter and/or Jones will stay in to block on those deep routes.

3 TE - 10% - We will even go a bit more run heavy with this set with Golladay as our only WR.  We will split out our TEs to get them in single matchups against the LBs.  If we split two TEs to one side, look for some TE screens to get them in space with a blocker.  We will also do this with Golladay and a TE split out.

2 RB - 10% - We will have both Guice and Jones in the backfield.  Typically, Jones will split out to get a LB out of the box as we love that matchup.  However, we will keep both in the backfield at times to run some misdirection and confuse their young LBs.

Defense
With Hock, Olsen, and Hilton out, the Hungary offense is hamstrung. Our goals are to shut down Goff’s run game and double Fitz.  Goff is best when he can utilize play action, so we want to remove that option.  Also, if Metcalf makes a catch, Slay will hold him up so the next man can try to punch the ball out.  We are not getting too exotic as we think we can cover their healthy players more than long enough for our pass rush to get to Goff.

3 WR/1 TE -
Cover 1 Man - Thornhill will sit deep middle.  Slay takes Metcalf, Joyner takes Fitz with outside leverage, and Byron takes the other WR while Tremaine takes Doyle.  Rashaan is spying the run game as he knows Fournette very well.  Kazee is going to play in the box to give us an additional man in run defense and will bracket Fitz when Fitz releases inside.

We will incorporate a little Cover 2 and more 3 zone in this set to confuse Goff.  If Hungary tries to send a man in motion, we will typically have our man defender follow the motion man, then drop back into a zone.  But sometimes we will stay in that man coverage to not be predictable.

4 WR -
Cover 1 Man - Slay takes Metcalf, Joyner takes Fitz, Byron takes the other outside WR, and Hilton takes the other slot.  Thornhill plays deep middle.  Tremaine follows the RB.  Kazee plays up in the box to help in the run game and bracket Fitz.

As with 3 WR sets, we will incorporate some zone coverage to not be totally predictable.

5 WR -
Same personnel as with 4 WR, we will use Cover 2, 3, and 4.  Tremaine will blitz around half the time to blitz Goff.

You don’t have Mike Evans and Chris Godwin opening up things for him either

Evans got hurt after a 61 yard catch in the first quarter and didn't return. He scored an additional 3 TDs after he left the game. Nice try Counselor.

It would be the cruelest twist of fate if Winston of all people knocked Rags out of his first playoffs.

Being 100% honest, I think Jameis is playing better Ball than Brady is at this point too.

Putting up more yards?  Yes.  Playing better?  I would disagree.  Brady is dealing with multiple OL injuries, a nonexistent run game, nothing at TE, and one WR he can rely on as the others are running wrong routes and dropping balls.

I mean after Evans was hurt Jameis was in the same situation with the likes of Breshad Perriman and Justin Watson as his #2 and 3 option after Godwin so they are pretty much in the same situation in that suit. No one can convince anyone that Tampa has a consistent running game when they trot out Barber and Jones. The area Winston has it better is definitely the TE department.

Perriman and Watson are more like #4 and #5 options after Howard and Brate.  That said, Brady has had to deal with WRs running wrong routes and dropping balls all season.  Not just this one game.

Tampa's had the better OL too.  And while Barber and Jones may not be elite, they've been better rushing than anyone the Pats have had.

So do you think that the step back White and Michel have had since last year is player related or oline? Both were solid last season
