MIA extends WR Devante Parker for 4 years / 40M

Guy finally took 5 years, but he really arrived this year.   Singlehandedly wiped out PHI 2 weeks ago.   MIA investing in its younger guys, good to see it's not an all-out tank.

Also - Adam Gase had Parker, Tannehill, Drake and Landry at the doghouse, or wanted them gone (or both), all at different times.  Just saying... maybe it's just Gase.

It could end up being a steal of a contract. but hes just too inconsistent to give $10mil a year to.  they wouldve been better off just getting a WR in the draft theres a TON this year.

MIA has 130M+ of cap space next year (108M next year, and 24+ of rollover) pre-extension.   Given that MIA has to spend a minimum amount of cap to reach the 90% threshold, and players can only be given extensions in their 4th year of rookie deals (or players who've gone past their rookie deals) - who exactly would you have MIA spend the $ on?   There's literally no one on that squad who's worth extending who's playing decently who hasn't been targeted already - Eric Rowe just got extended, and Xavien Howard was done earlier this year.    What big name FA's are coming to MIA next year?

Parker's been a top 20 WR this year, playing with a terrible OL and literally no help.   10M a year is well below market prices for even a top 25-30 WR hitting the open market.   That alone would merit a below-market deal for a 26-27 year old in their prime.    Golden Tate got 4/37M as a 31 year old.   Tyrell Williams got 4/44M.  Donte Moncrief got 10/1 the prior offseason as a 26 year old with zero production.   Looking further this year, Jamison Crowder got 3/28M.   Adam Humphries got 4/36M.    So what kind of WR do you think you're getting with 10M a year AAV?  By the market alone, that extension is incredibly team-friendly.

Add the context about MIA having to spend some money, and they can only extend a specific group of players, I don't know that there is a better choice on that team.    TBH, it seems like the best guy to extend, other than keeping Fitz beyond 2020, but he's already signed cheaply for 5.5M as the caretaker.   And again, 10M a year is a huge bargain if he's a 80/1,200/6+ TD guy.

Understanding the team context of their cap needs to actually spend up, it's a fantastic move for MIA, and a no-brainer given they have to spend it somewhere, and have no one else even close to worthy of extension discussion.

Yah seems like a decent deal compared to the typical productive WR contract. Parker and rookie Preston Williams are some tall WR targets, nice tandem.

This might not bode well for the future of well-paid but oft-injured WR speedster Albert Wilson in Miami. This team will probably have 20 new guys on the 53 next year tho, so who knows.

It only took him his entire 1st round contract to over-inflate his stats to that of WR2 status, on a team that played chase 95 percent of the season. Call me a doubter, but I smell something fishy here...

Or maybe he's finally healthy and has a gunslinger at QB who will actually throw to him.
