Now Dak is lighting it up but team is falling short and we are losing. So Dak playing average doesn't mean our team sucks, and Dak playing great doesn't mean our team is a juggernaut. How valuable is he really? This isn't a fair comparison. It's obvious that Zeke hasn't been the Zeke of old this year and the defense has been a massive disappointment. Most of all, let's not forget we had the worst kicker in the league (imo) who missed 30 points worth of kicks total. You realize Maher was 20% on FGAs between 40-49 yards on the season! If we had even an average kicker, I would bet anything that Dallas isn't 7-7 right now. Maher was a trainwreck vs. Green Bay, Buffalo and Chicago. If Dak didn't light it up this year, this team would have 4 or 5 wins right now. Edited December 20, 2019 by Tony7188

He's Dak's most apt comparable and that's not a compliment Brees - FACTOR: Injuries in this year cost him 5 wins Garoppolo - FACTOR: Not enough games 19-5 as a starter Rodgers - FACTOR: Missed 9 starts in 2017 Cousins - FACTOR: Has 33 wins and played 2 seasons on trash Washington. Same record as Dak over the past 3 years. KIRK Fin COUSINS Watson - FACTOR: Only played 2.4 seasons to Dak's 4 Roethlisberger - FACTOR: missed almost all of 2019 and 3 games in 2016/17 Mariota - FOOTNOTE: Has the same win % in 2015-1018 (24-19) as Dak does in 2016-2019 (26-20) (Mariota got benched and replaced) So, The mitigating takeaway is even Dak's 39 wins are a form of a bulk stat because he's simply played more games than the other QB's on teams that have had winning pedigrees over the past 4 seasons. The Cowboys, as a team have also been regarded as a "contender" for that entire 4 year period, whereas various other QB's/Teams have either been in flux with a rebuild or have had a revolving cast at QB As impressive as Dak's 13-3 record was as a rookie, The 26-20 since then is equally unimpressive, Recency Bias should always be prevalent in player and team evaluation or you end up paying guys for what they have done, rather than what they are going to do Dak is 26-20 over the past 3 seasons, in company with Marcus Mariota and Kirk Cousins Dak has lead this team to a 7-7 record in his most recent season In closing, Limiting the scope to "The last 4 seasons" is cherry picking for Dak If you said "Last 5 seasons" it puts him at the same disadvantage of many on the above list If you said "Last 3 seasons" it starts to look a lot less impressive, since he leaves the exclusive company of just Wilson and Brady If you don't factor in injuries of other top QB's then it becomes a bulk stat - He's simply played more games Dak's played on a "good" team for his entire 4 years. How many other QB's have had as favourable a Edited December 20, 2019 by eagles suck
