sonny44
Yes, Baker needs a makeover. Yes, we fired our under-performing coach. Yes, Chubb lost the title. Yes, OBJ flunked out. But how did our defense become so rotten, other than one suspension?

We ran mostly zone with two press corners. Olivier Vernon stunk.
hornbybrown
It really was terrible. Injuries didn’t help we had a ton of them. some notable stats just from yesterday. That was Joe Mixons best game all year. His second best was vs you guessed it us. Don’t know where their points for yesterday sits but that could well be their highest. other side of the ball we had minus six yards in third quarter and they had a team high six sacks. We really out a terribly coached team on D and O. ST’s was coached well
Kiwibrown
Myles was 65% of our pass rush or more. Larry o fell off the face of the earth. Ward was more good than great Our ss were better than street free agenrs, but pretty average. Freddies clock management didnt help a ton. Our linebackers seldom stone wall tackle guys, for all his promise, mack is more coverage than run stuffer. He missed a big tackle yesterday. He's certainly not elite but he's still a good DT. But yeah, we had zero pass rush without Myles. When you have that, poor tackling, below average play at safety and corners who aren't playing in a scheme that best suits their abilities... it's not exactly going to be a recipe for success. Our defense was inconsistent WITH Myles, but it was straight up bad when he was gone and that was with us going up against some pretty bad offenses.

By no means was larry bad, but the start of last year he was looking like an all pro, he got 3 or 2 sacks vs the saints, this year he didnt have any dominant games. sdrawkcab321
We hired a zone coverage DC to go along with man cover DBs.
candyman93
Guys gave up. They got tired of our offense stalling and turning it over.
big poppa pump
We are playing dudes off the street like Porter Gustin and Bryan Cox jr. Depth was an issue, and we need to upgrade our LB's and Safety positions.

I think it goes a little farther than that. We hired a DC who plays not to lose when the team is losing.

Because “real football guy” released and traded away “not real football players” Nassib and Ogbah who combined for 11.5 sacks this season. Imagine a DL room of Myles, Vernon, Nassib, Ogbah, and Thomas....

We also hired a guy who runs a base 3 safety defense and give him a slew of turds at safety. We needed a box safety who can excel in the box, but isn’t a liability in coverage for the defense to work. A Jabril Peppers type..... He outproduced the 15 million dollar man and was already under contract. Legit question, he or Eric Murray in 2019? Youre lying if you wouldn’t have preferred Ogbah.
