Swampbilly
I tweaked the draft to focus a little more towards the trenches while still getting 2 highly productive RB’s that both performed outstanding against tough SEC Defenses. Additionally I also reworked the salary numbers for Judon while adding Dante Fowler Jr and providing some rough salary numbers. I also dropped Thuney and Conklin altogether, which was possible by using pick 18 on Wills. We could still use an upgrade at RG but I think this adds talent at every level ,except WR and QB, with the intent that we target our QB early in the 2021 draft. I think this is an off season plan that could really make us a competitor going into 2021. It doesn't add too many Free Agents into the mix and essentially allows us to go QB and OG early in 2021. Swampbilly
So here is an explanation, for those who don't follow college football, on the players I drafted in this 2020 mock. Okudah CB Ohio State, best CB in the class. Elite man coverage skills. Has length and speed to be a day 1 starter and potential to be a true NFL shut down Corner. (Change: Mock draft updated to reflect Tua Tagovailoa drafted by Dolphins at #5 overall, explanation: Our future franchise QB) Wills OT Alabama, could very well go top 15 or even top 10, so it's a little hopeful he will still be available at 18. Very strong run blocker and a good pass blocker. Biadasz C Wisconsin, best Center in a class that has some good depth at the position. Has played next to our current starting LG, is an upgrade over our current C Killgore. Okwara DE / OLB Notre Dame, could be a little bit of a reach for a need since I've seen him projected everywhere from round 1 to round 5. Will be a pass rush specialist in his first season or two. Needs to add more bulk and strength to be a well rounded edge player, but shows quick twitch burst and ability to bend the edge. Harris RB Alabama, highly productive player that has elite size to speed ratio. Demonstrates ability to break tackles. A bigger back that maybe doesn't have elite speed but can still outrun most front 7 defenders. Has nice hands and is a receiving threat despite his larger frame. Davis FS California, not a complete player, but has elite speed for the position. Shows tremendous range and recovery burst. A track star that isn't a bad tackler but needs to work on his tackling to be effective at the next level Edward Helaire RB LSU, highly productive vs SEC defenses. Not the biggest player on the field but has humongous heart. He can do it all really well except for maybe blocking, but is certainly a willing blocker Garvin DE / OLB Miami, productive player for the U. Has experience as a 4-3 DE and as a 3-4 OLB. 6-4 260 frame with ability to get after the QB but is at his best when he is defending the point of attack. Loudermilk DE / DT Wisconsin, elite size at 6'7" 300 lbs. Best playing as a 3-4 DE. Not a high twitch player but strong at the point of attack and capable of pressuring the QB and getting hands up to change passing lanes. Has experience playing the outside edge with Van Ginkel in support. Snowden OLB Virginia, elite length at 6'7". Needs to add strength and bulk. Capable of rushing the passer and dropping into zone but needs to work on setting up OT's for counter moves. A project player with a low floor but a sky high ceiling. Davis DT Nebraska, productive player with 8 sacks for Nebraska in 2019. Has enough burst to penetrate and close on the QB. Suspended for 1 game for punching an Ohio State player earlier in the season. Good size for the position at 6'2" 315. Projects best as 4-3 DT IMO but could look good getting after QB's next to Wilkins when we go into a 4-3 look. A project player that is boom or bust. Swampbilly
For my Third update of the day.... In honor of Tua declaring for the NFL today, I decided to change my Mock Draft to reflect my prediction of the Dolphins drafting him at number 5 overall. hrubes20
There are so many good RBs in this draft that I would not be happy with one in the 2nd round at all, unless it was Swift, Dobbins, or Taylor.

There are a lot of good RB's in this draft, but I see Swift, Dobbins, and Taylor being drafted before our first pick in round 2. Taylor is vastly overrated, like most RB's running behind Wisconsin's OLine, IMO. Najee Harris is a steal at the end of round 2 and likewise with Helaire in the first comp round. I'm not sure either of them will actually be available, especially Helaire who could be the best RB in this class, but we are in dire need of an upgrade at the position. We really do need to hit on 2 RB's in this draft and Harris and Helaire are both backs that can run between the tackles and catch out of the backfield......They would give us a true Thunder and Lightning combo which is what I'm going for here. Watch both of these players vs big time SEC Defenses this past season. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=najee+harris+vs+lsu+2019&view=detail&mid=245BA3B3045FB5093FAE245BA3B3045FB5093FAE&FORM=VIRE Edited January 8, 2020 by Swampbilly

We don't, however, need to devote 2 top 4 round picks to the position when contributors can be found at the RB from any round, and the team has so many holes. This is such a deep RB class that multiple starting-quality RBs will likely be there in the 3rd round, and COP and complimentary backs will be there in the late rounds. Other positions will see a much more drastic drop in talent after the 2nd round, and as such I would prefer the Fins go there before RB. True that this is a deep RB class, and the draft could play out just as you say, but keep in mind that once we see combine and pro day performances this will all adjust. I'm not basing this draft so much off of what I would do but more so what I think Grier would do. Additionally, once the comp rounds start prior to round 4 I think we will see that RB talent dry up quick, so for a team with dire needs at the position......best to grab one prior to those compensatory rounds and Harris late in the 2nd presents good value for an immediate upgrade. Edwards Helaire is my favorite RB in this entire class and I'm really starting to believe he will be gone well before the comp round...…..If he demonstrates a sub 4.5 40 and a good vertical at the combine he won't make it out of round 2. Swampbilly
Updated my take on our possible Draft picks to reflect the announcement of a few top teir RB's planning to return to the NCAA for 2020 ( Harris, Etiene, Chubba ). I have us now drafting JK Dobbins with pick 5 of Round 2 based off of what some mock drafters are telling me, but I really feel that this is more wishful thinking and he will be gone in Round 1 as the 2nd RB selected overall behind Swift. I also pushed Okwara down to late Round 2 based off of other mock drafters views that K'Lavon Chaisson is a 1st Rounder, but IMO his ceiling is early Round 2.....Nevertheless he could still be drafted ahead of Okwara either way. On the Free Agent keepers I added Needham. He really progressed throughout the season and should be retained with a modest contract. Swampbilly
ver 1.3 Made some Draft Adjustments which I believe will look accurate after Combine and Pro Day performances......Big risers; Clyde Edwards Helaire climbs into round 2 and teams only concern on him is his pass blocking, Tua rises because of his medical reports and throws great at Combine and Pro Day, CB Troy Pride rises due to great Senior Bowl practices and blazing sub 4.4 40 time at Combine. Admittedly wishful thinking that Pride will still be there at top of Round 3 and the same for Helaire at bottom of round 2 and Akers in the first supplemental round. Swampbilly
Updated Free Agent signings Re-drafted post combine and will take another look at Re-drafting post Pro Days I feel this current Off Season Mock-Up would put us in a good spot going into the 2021 draft looking for playmakers on both sides of the ball, as well as upgrades at OT and LG. I understand we have the draft firepower in 2020 to completely overhaul our OLine, but in trying to stay realistic I don't think ANY NFL team goes into a season with 5 Rookie OLinemen as starters. I tried to stay realistic in the Draft while not spending every dime we have in the 2020 FA market. I think this team with Fitz as the starting QB in 2020 ( and Tua transitioning to starter in 2021 ) would be an 8-8 team. The 2021 Draft and Off Season FA's ( since we could roll over a good portion of our current cap to 2021 ) could turn us into a perennial playoff team for the 2021-2026 season. IMO that would be a Job-Well-Done by Grier and Flores.
