Everything's tied to that QB and you can afford one round of coaching scapegoats. coaches that weren't there when the qb was drafted though so really unfair for them to get fired because pace drafted a crappy qb. Forge
Well, this is Nagy's one shot. Coaches who disappoint usually get that one time, "the blame stops.........over there" and then it's on their heads. He's gone after next season if they don't have a good year.
raidersedge
Harry Hiestand has been a highly respected coach for awhile and was a huge hire for Nagy at the time. Kind of surprising.

Everyone is just trying to keep their cushy jobs as long as possible and will do whatever's necessary to make that happen. There is no big picture everyone is on board with, just a lot of people individually working to save their ***** in a business demanding instant gratification.

Well yeah, but he did draft Trubisky. So the self-preservation move to make now is throwing coaches under the bus, then the team can craft an offseason narrative about how "different" Trubisky and the offense look. Trubisky has pretty much all of his 2020 deal guaranteed, so there isn't a benefit to cutting him. At least utilize him as a reserve. I've said multiple times they need to let Nagy take his QB in the 2nd and have an open competition. If that guy can hit someone 20 yards downfield IDK how he could lose the competition. Trubisky's regression was horrendous. OL was trash so no run game, no TEs, and a QB that can't hit open receivers. He deserves a shot in 2020 with a guy he chooses.

There was clearly a bit of an injury bug at RT and RG, but there still was clear regression even when all were healthy. I'm on the fence about Helfrich but just to add to this regarding the RG and RT positions. Helfrich's decision to start Long again this year instead of developing a proper replacement was mind-blowing to me considering that Long has been regressing every year for a few years now after injuries. I can understand rolling with him for just one more year in '18 in hopes that he can bring something to the table, and because he was the best option. But last year's decline and mid-season injury should have been the clear sign to Helfrich that Long has nothing left in the tank. Replacing Long should have been a high priority for Helfrich in the off-season, but either he didn't see anyone else on the roster worth a damn (which is possible), or he did see this as a problem and the team just didn't have the available resources to get someone that he felt good about, and so he stuck with the veteran Long and crossed his fingers. At this point, the only thing Long can offer is leadership--which is important on a relatively young team. But the leadership trait doesn't override his lack of ability on the field. It's also worth noting that while this was the same 5 O-lineman that started last year, it was Helfrich's decision to switch Whitehair to LG and Daniels to C, for whatever reason, even after having success in 2018 with Whitehair at Center and Daniels at Guard. It's the old adage if it's not broke don't fix it. And Helfrich didn't fix what was broken, and tried to fix what wasn't broken.

How long did it take him to realize that White was a mistake?

How could you possibly know that? Depends on the ownership. Atlanta just gave Quinn another chance when a lot of people are wondering if he even deserved another chance. Plus, Chicago was a terrible football team before Nagy got there. This just wasn't their year.

Fully deserved, just surprising how bad they were this season.
