TCMD - NYG War Room

After the season we've all had to suffer through, I thought it might be nice to work together on a mock draft this year.

You older guys remember FFMD, but with this mock I'd like to run it a bit different so that those that are participating have more control to manage their assigned positions.  We're still over a month out from starting this mock but I'm so ready to get this started.  Rather than making it a complete democratic vote, like ffmd did in the past.  Here is what I'm proposing and hope that you guys will join in the fun.

Here is a link to the guidelines, which is a rather long read, but there is a linked table of contents to make it easy to find the exact content you're looking for.  This mock is done is phases to make it super easy to follow along.

This is how I'd like us to manage our war room and member duties if you guys are down.  Which I hope you are because it can be a lot of fun, tcmd puts on a pretty good mock.

Total Control War Room, where those that want to be involved have “total control” to manage their assigned position.  Since this is a new concept I’ll explain in more detail.

The idea behind this is that not all members within the group are going to commit to the same level of participation but giving them more control could change that.    Unlike in previous mocks the positions of Head Coach and Coordinators never really carried much value, as these were just titles that just identified their level of commitment to the mock.  Where with this system, titles give you certain levels of “control”.

Member responsibilities and duties, which we can tailor to fit our needs as a group.

  • General Manager
    • Hires coaching staff.
      • Assigns an assistant General Manager (either HC or director of Player Personnel or College Scouting)
    • Manages any voided coaching staff positions by finding someone or managing it himself.
    • Determines the first pick selection in the draft, not necessarily the first round pick as some teams may not have one.
    • Determines the financial spending limits for each offensive/defensive coaching position.

  • Head Coach
    • Asst. GM (Determined by GM)
    • Liaison between the coaching staff and GM.
    • Works with the GM to create contract offers based on the information and scouting reporting from coordinators.
    • Given the choice to make the teams 2nd draft selection.
  • Offensive Coordinator
    • Total Control over which offensive players are scouted in both the free agency and the draft.
    • Given the choice to select the team’s 3rd or 4th draft pick (to be determined by the GM)
  • Defensive Coordinator
    • Total Control over which defensive players are scouted in both the fa and draft.
    • Given the choice to select the team’s 3rd or 4th draft pick (to be determined by the GM)
  • Director of Player Personnel
    • Asst. GM (Determined by GM)
    • Pairs with the GM in finding potential trades with other teams.
      • Must be able to negotiate a deal with not only the other team but with the coaches from our own team, that control those picks.
    • Provided the option to make the team’s 5th draft pick selection.
  • Director of College Scouting
    • These are your college scouting gurus that know the draft prospects well and can find you the late round talent.
    • Will make the teams final two draft selections.
    • Asst. GM (Determined by GM)

So would that mean I am Director of Player Personnel to your GM-ship?

If so, there are quit a few players I would like to get early votes on from the staff (i.e the rest of the forum). I will gladly DM anyone who likes this post with the targets I have laid out! Remember, I can always be voted down on any target.

Post First Day of TCMD Presser

After the first day of the new league season. The Giants hold a press conference to introduce Mitch Morse and discuss the move that sent Sterling Shepard out of town.

Reporter: YogiBiz, after your first day as GM you made another startling move. You traded another pass catcher away. Are you not concerned with Daniel Jones' development and removing a weapon from his arsenal?

YogiBiz: I thought long losing another weapon long and hard.Shepard is a talented #2 Receiver, and an upstanding individual. Receiving a top 100 pick for pass catcher who always either is leaving games early or just missing time was too good value to pass up. With Shepard gone, I have effectively ended all trade discussions involving TE Evan Engram.

Reporter: Well not all news is bad, you acquired Center Mitch Morse in a deal with the Bills that sent out only a fifth and seventh round pick.

YogiBiz: While we did feel this years draft is really strong at Center, we did think only two players can potentially meet the level Morse plays at right now. The deal for us was an obvious one, we needed a center and Mitch has been one of the better ones in our league for a few seasons now. With his signing bonus negated we got a top tier center for a discount. I do share some ideologies with my predecessor, rings are won in the trenches first. I am invested into creating a top flight unit to protect Daniel Jones. We plan to stay busy this off-season, so for now, I must bid you ado.

YogiBiz leaves the presser, so he can enter a room devoid of people. Making sure the coast is clear, YogiBiz removes his skin mask to reveal none other than Dave Gettleman

He looks down at the transaction report from the deals that had just taken place. He laughs maniacally.

DG: HOGS SHALL REIGN SUPREME.

Footsteps approach Gettleman's back room, and he hurriedly reapplies his skin mask.

To Be Continued....

It's a slow day at work, and since I'm a writer I spend most of my time on my computer. So, I decided to have a little fun with this.

Why would you trade Shepard for a 3rd? We just signed him to a brand new deal and now we have no wide receivers at all. We take on his $8M of dead money as well. I understand the concussion concern, but Engram has received more injuries and is on the final year of his deal.

The concussion concern was the first reason that the deal came up.

Next I believe we can get the same level of production from either a late round rookie or a cheap vet. In other words, I have never truly been a big fan of his. This was the year to prove he was more than an average #2 guy and he didn't.

Talking about Engram, I was actually more motivated to move him. But I kept getting package deals for him and Tomlinson and a pick for a third or a combo of thirds. This was not the value I was hoping for with Engram, and TE is going to be much harder to replace this off-season than an average receiver. Engram is on his fifth year option, so he has two seasons to prove he's worth keeping long term.

The Dead Cap was the toughest pill to swallow. 8 mil is nothing to scoff at, and was the reason I hesitated at first.

If he breaks out, he'll effectively price himself out of reach for the team because the year after his contract up Saquon will need an extension, and the following year Lawrence and Jones will need extensions.

All in all, I'm just not a fan of Shepard's talent. While also getting value in return and finding someone cheaper.

Well this year it hasn't worked out too good for the Giants.  My GM disappeared on me after making some high priced trades and while managing the mock I haven't had the time to scout the draft or even search for trades, but I recently added @rackcs as my coGM / scout guru and things are looking up.

I'll try to get the depth chart finished later tonight but here is our current roster with the cuts listed at the bottom.

There was some early trades by the previous GM but as of right now rackcs and myself have done the following with the draft.

1ST Rnd - Pick 20 | Overall: 20 | NYG selects Justin Jefferson - WR
2ND Rnd - Pick 19 | Overall: 51 | NYG selects Julian Okwara - EDGE
3RD Rnd - Pick 13 | Overall: 77 | New York Giants
3RD Rnd - Pick 18 | Overall: 82 | New York Giants
4TH Rnd - Pick 3 | Overall: 106 | New York Giants
4TH Rnd - Pick 4 | Overall: 107 | New York Giants
7TH Rnd - Pick 30 | Overall: 245 | New York Giants
7TH Rnd - Pick 33 | Overall: 248 | New York Giants

Again this isn't the depth chart but just the roster listing.
