GOGRIESE
Good! That's exactly what he deserves
malagabears
Thing is we need a real SS to gel with him next season. HHCD is not the answer.
Madmike90
Jackson deserves every penny...he is easily top 3 at that position.

Yeah, a true SS would be great. Clinton Dix was fine but he's a FS and this forced Pagano to play Jackson in the box too much.
abstract_thought
Not sure he earned that deal this season... It probably would have been prudent to see if he can repeat his 2018 success before paying him as if that’s a baseline.
WindyCity
He is really good and that deal is solid for the Bears. Landon Collins got 45 million guaranteed on the open market last season. 5 years 60 million/33 guaranteed is a good example of why using the leverage of early extensions is smart.

I generally agree, just like when the Bears signed extensions with Leno and Massie.
abstract_thought
There’s no incentive to an early extension when you’re paying him more than any other safety in the league.

Did he not repeat his 2018 season because the Bears pass rush was not as good and the Bears played him out of position closer to the line of scrimmage because they lost Amos. The Bears need a SS to use Jackson the way he should be used. Dix played well this year but him and Jackson are the same kind of safety.

Pagano had him in the box much more than Fangio did, essentially allowing HHCD to be the true FS.
Epyon
I wonder if that Denmark kid we drafted last year then practice squaded can develop into a decent SS option for next year.

abstract_thought
I’m just saying it may have been safer to wait and see if he can replicate his 2018 performance before paying him a salary that counts on him being a top 5 safety. The Bears gain almost nothing by doing this extension now. It’s a risk that seems to have little reward.
