Cowboys hire Nolan as DC

The least shocking hire of the offseason so far. I wonder if McCarthy is going to try to get Mcadoo on his staff.

sounds like he is staying on staff or they are trying to keep him on staff.

Richard is getting looks at HC. No way is he staying anywhere as less than a DC.

It looks like he is trying to stay, even taking a demotion.

Getting "Looks" at HC and satisfying the Rooney Rule are 2 totally different things

So the first new staffs being put together are HC Rivera with Del Rio at DC and HC McCarthy with Nolan at DC.  Has the run on hot new HC candidates come to an end?

College coaches historically fail in the NFL. And both the Cowboys (win now) and Redskins (stability) were looking for guys who have won in the past.

I think the Rooney Rule is kind of dumb, but Richard I think would make a good coach.

Nolan reminds me of Wade in that his scheme has success the first year and steadily gets worse and worse as time progresses.

That's true of most DC's.
Vic Fangio is a smart and talented DC and he's been fired for sucking 9 times so far in his career
Wade Phillips has a similar resume: lather, rinse, repeat.
Wade sucked so bad in Dallas that they fired him. Then he landed in Denver with all- world talent and he was back to being a top DC again.

Its also really hard to maintain a "good" defense.
Injury, attrition, FA, worse draft slot and offenses getting a read on you all conspire to make it really tough to maintain a top performing unit
