Break down specially what were the main seasons why the offense performed so badly this season and why did it slowly get worse and worse? For example week 1 and 3 for instance it looked like it would be strong this season.

what were the main differences from last season specially towards the end of the year? Why was last years offense so much better?

Lack of continuity

Last season, we didn't need to change the OL more than once or twice all season. This time, we've had a total lack of cohesion and continuity on the line - playing a G at C, a debutant at C too, Newhouse coming in and out. The same can be said for the WR corps. Brown in then out, Gordon out, Edelman not consistently healthy, Harry mostly out, then in then out. If offense is about timing - we had NONE of that.

Drop in form

Mason is a key player on our OL - he was horribly out of form. Same can be said for Cannon. Same could be said for Michel most of the year. Gordon lost more ability from the previous season. The receivers just could not get as open as before. Not sure why, but they hung Tom out to dry most of the season. I bet we had some of the least separation of all offenses.

Neglect and/or Missed Opportunities

We knew Gronk was retiring and that Allen was leaving, but we have totally neglected that position. We do not have a genuine receiving option at TE, we do not have a genuine blocking TE. It has hurt. Antonio Brown is a missed opportunity, drafting Harry over AJ Brown MAY have been a missed opportunity (not writing Harry off at all, but he missed most of the season, that's a fact).

Playcalling

Why was Josh relying so much on trickery? Why did we go so vanilla in key games? Why was our RZ playcalling so easy to defend? 3 runs in a row from the 1-3 yard line when our opponents were stuffing short yard plays all game?

Tom isn't the same

Far from the problem, and he's still our best player on O, but he's not the 06-17 Tom. He couldn't quite overcome a bad roster this time round. It's not his fault, he's 42, and he's still one of the smartest players in the league, but there's no doubt he's lost a little bit. Some head scratching plays this season (Skins pick springs to mind).

Now whats not responsible...

1. Tom Brady - biggest difference vs what he was doing in 2017 is the weapons around him and the quality of the defense.  2017 Tom had a lot of weapons and the team was willing to take risks on offense, that those weapons could help execute on, because the defense was weak.  Now they are playing conservatively because the defense is strong and the weapons are non-existent.  Much lower numbers but he’s still the same guy.

2. Running backs - honestly the breakdown in the running game has a lot more to do with offensive line / fullback injuries than any of these guys, no we dont have the next Adrian Peterson but we dont need that, this group is plenty good enough.

3. Isiah Wynn - is a really good left tackle when he’s on the field.  His health is a concern but what he did in the second half was really impressive and responsible for us pulling out a couple close games.

4. N’Keal Harry - he wasn’t the savior but showed more than enough flashes to get you excited he’s going to be a big piece going forward.

1 - O-line attrition / regression

2 - The abyss at TE

3 - WR attrition & deficiencies.  Injuries, inexperience, roster shuffling, and inconsistency (5th in drops in the league)

4a - Father Time

4b - OC

I think the combo of McD's designs and TB12's execution issues are about on the same level.  I don't have the metrics to see how much TB's accuracy weighed into things, whether it was throw-aways, throws to covered receivers that were away from defenders that weren't catchable, incorrect routes, or just flat out misses.

ESPN wrote an article what led to this. Honestly, when you have a first round bye and reach the AFC Championship for practically the entire decade, the law of averages is eventually going to catch up.

woe is me, this is a very objective post.:x

- Offensive line struggles. Cannon isn’t a great RT anymore/has a tendency to get dinged up, Andrews missed the whole season, Wynn has been decent but not reliable (forcing Newhouse into the mix...), and Mason regressed in a big fashion. Thuney was the lone bright spot and has set himself up for more money than NE may be able to afford.

- Couldn’t run the ball. Probably falls in line with the OL issues, but the run game wasn’t nearly as reliable this season as it was in 2018. Maybe that’s Sony too, but the ball wasn’t being moved well for a majority of the season. Develin’s injury was a huge factor here too - Sony does much better with a fullback.

- Injuries and depth issues at WR. Edelman proved to be the only reliable target and he’s been banged up for virtually the entire season. Sanu was showing up too but he got hurt. Harry wasn’t healthy and got into the mix very late. Meyers wasn’t consistent enough. Dorsett is Dorsett. No tight ends to speak of. Trading DT ended up being a big mistake.

- Brady has regressed. Not a ton, he’s still Brady, but he’s not the top of the league like he used to be.
