He can certainly utilize DePodesta, but he shouldn't have equal power with DePodesta. He’s being interviewed to be the GM so it’s a definite promotion. Depodesta is just the chief strategy officer. I understand that, but that doesn't mean that DePodesta won't want to share the power of football decision-making, and to be successful, that can't happen. DePodesta needs to supplement Paton and not try to overrule him, because that's where we got into trouble with the "Triangle of Authority" nonsense in Minnesota. That’s exactly what the setup is going to be. Depodesta is just there to make sure everybody’s jobs are ran more streamlined and more efficiently. Once the hiring process is over he’ll go back to his California home and play on the calculator all day. The Wade scheme excels when you have a great pass rush without the need to blitz all the time, but for scheme / surprise (check), and 2 cover CB’s who can play on islands if need be so they can roll extra help elsewhere. Ward & Greedy seem to fit there. The Wade scheme is always vulnerable to power run unless the DL are fantastic (Wolfe / Malik Jackson 2015), but the elements for a big jump for CLE’s D is there. Did he run a 3-4 in Denver? Curious about that. We had this discussion on the 49er forum a while ago because somebody said that he had some tampa 2 background as well. Joe Woods was the secondary coach for the Vikings for many years along as Stefanski was coming up, so yes, he has an extensive Tampa2 background. In fact, he knows the Tampa 2 better than he knows the 3-4. Edited January 20, 2020 by swede700

That's a big hurdle to overcome, for sure; BUT, he does have Odell Beckham, Drama Queen, Former Great Wide Receiver, and KING of Self-Promotion, to ease the transition! So he’s adaptable IMO. His time as DC looks meh in DEN but frankly we had meh talent. Teams knew they could attack us with RB / TE vs. our ILB or crossing routes vs. Talib (whose play was hitting the wall unless it was a big body type). With our pathetic O the D got worn out and we’d lose handily. Not really his fault. Edited January 20, 2020 by Broncofan

Think he just got the job because he was tight with Freddie. Stefanski really needs to get the QB coach hiring right. Most Browns fans feel that the QB coach hire is almost as important as any hire that Stefanski will make. Yeah now I’m thinking Baker might win Comeback Player of the Year. Lindley as QB Coach? What a terrible hire, Freddie. That guys mechanics were the worst I’ve ever seen. Baker needs to pull a pokemon and “Do you want to forget this move? You will lose this move permanently.” Yes.
