Why did Americans lose interest in space?

Recommended Posts

I don't think there's a loss of interest in space at all. Look over the last few years at thing like the Mars rover, all of the stuff from Pluto, landing on a comet, sending a satellite plunging into Saturn, and the millions of views one of the people on the ISS get when they post something to social media. In a time where a news cycle is measured in minutes, all of those things were talked about for weeks.

The Mandalorian, Doctor Who, The Expanse, and The Orville are all TV shows set in space, and doing well. All of the Star Wars, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Martian, Arrival, Planet of the Apes, Hidden Figures, First Man, and some other movies have done well in the box office.

People say this and it horrifies me.

We've explored maybe 5% of our oceans.

We've explored 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000infinity1 of space honestly this forum doesn't have the server space for the amount of zeroes you'd need.

We know more about the oceans than we do space.

1% of 1000 is more than 100% of 1

So what he said could be true as a total

Because you figured out that, in this case, you had a bigger penis than your main rivals at the time (Russia).

NASA's budget in the 60s (% of fed budget) averaged about 2.5% including getting up to 4.41% in 66

Since the collapse of the Sov Un, spending has only got above 1% of fed budget twice (around the same time as the collapse). Since then, 0. something % every year. Last year; 0.47%.

That's undoubtedly far too simplistic and only one reason, but there you go. Not to mention as we get more polarised, spending has found a lot of opposition from certain groups.

edit: oh, you actually meant fiction. Crap.

This poster has made 2 posts on this forum, both are about Battlestar Galactica.  Please ban this poster, obviously bot.

The main thing is just that you're hella anti Soviet.  I think that'll burn itself out probably.

Because we beat the Ruskies but discovered the moon wasn't made of cheese like we were promised.

It was indeed a sad day, when American learned that Wisconsin was in fact, still necessary and integral to the Union.
