Considering most of their scandals are working to cover for authoritarian regimes, they actually kind of are Darth Vader. Well, maybe not that high. Maybe the guy in the death star firing the laser.

There are always a few bad apples in an organization of that size

You can hit their pockets can't you?

Manfred didn't want to do ANYTING that would risk pissing off the MLBPA any more than it already is.  CBA negotiations are coming up quickly, and there is already a huge contingent that is more than willing to strike.

Sure. Or you can maybe recognize that in the grand scheme of actually playing baseball, this is like shooting Archduke Ferdinand's brother's father's cousin's former roommate with an airsoft gun so maybe let's not try and start World War 1 unless we absolutely have to.

And the punishments are all going to have to be relative, with so many complicating factors.

You know how every time someone makes contact with an umpire the baseball world goes "well he got 3 games and he got 6 so this has to be somewhere between 4 and 5". Take that and make it infinitely more complicated. How do you punish Fiers, who know, but didn't say anything right away, then ratted? How do you punish someone who was involved for 1 year, versus leading it for 2 years? What about someone who just heard the banging trash cans in his AB? What about a player who says he was worried that if he didn't participate, the manager or GM who didn't show much disapproval would bench him/send him down? Does a backup C really want to make an enemy out of baseball ops personnel?

Oh, and all of this is going to be instantly appealed, so get ready to argue it 40 times in front of a panel of arbiters.

(If the MLB were smart, which they aren't, they'd include punishments for these sorts of scandals in the next CBA, and work with the MLBPA to establish a whistleblower policy so they have guidelines for what to do when players are involved.)

You ever wonder how all the people working on the Death Star got their jobs? And how they get promoted? Imagine how tough those performance reviews are. Wonder if they have seminars and brainstorms to think about how to increase synergy and end the Jedi.

So the World Series winning managers for 2017 (Hinch) and '18 (Cora) have now been dismissed in the aftermath of this Astros report.
Nahhhhhh, that wont stick.

Dave Martinez is the only manager from the last decade to win a WS and still be working.
