Compton Black Panthers

We are going to go very pass heavy on offense today early to exploit Seoul’s week secondary. Most plays are going to be run from shotgun, and Bradford will attack the intermediate and deep part of the field. Even though Seoul has a formidable pass rush, our OL has enough juice to hold them at bay, and Bradford excels at throwing under pressure to allow our WRs to get open downfield. Tarik Cohen will also get a significant number of snaps at RB and will be flexed out often as a WR, and the offense will attack from empty, where Bradford can easily find mismatches and get the ball out quick.

In terms of run game, the offense will be focused on gap plays (Duo, Power, Counter) to neutralize their speed at the POA and attack their undersized LBs. As the game goes on, the offense will shift more to a power running game with Marshawn Lynch trucking away to wear down the defense.

The defense has a very tough task at hand with one of the best offenses in the league. The Compton defense will be very aggressive blitzing this game and will consistently send 5 to 6 blitzes to make Ryan throw the ball out quick. There will be a mix between nickel and penny packages on passing downs as Rankins will move to NT with Liuget/Armstead rotating in DE in penny. From there, disguise would be heavy as all the DL are capable of dropping into coverage as blitzers will be sent from either the LB spot or NCB.  The secondary will mainly be single high with press coverage on the outside. The safeties will disguise often and will occasionally roll out trap coverages in 2 deep coverage to force Ryan into a mistake. The defense for the most part will be high risk high reward with much of the risk mitigated due to McCourty/Joseph’s range on the backend.

Offense

Our goal this week is to pound the ball again and again and use play action passes to get big plays through the passing game.

Compton DL, aside from Clowney obviously, is weak against the run. Rankins is atrocious, Buckner is average at best and Frank Clark, while a very good pass rusher, is a pass rusher only and used as such in Seattle. Given that, and the fact that we just traded for Zeitler to beef up our interior OL, we think our OL can open holes at the LoS and at the second level for our running backs.

DiMarco will come in for around 40% of the snaps to help our running game. Look for Ajayi to get between 20 to 30 touches and Crowell between 10 and 20, depending on who’s the hot hand. Charles Sims comes in for passing downs. We’ll run inside and outside, preferably behind Travis Kelce on Clark (or Hayes or Long) side.

Once the running game is established, it will be easier for Matt Ryan to work with playaction passes. Compton usually likes to leave McCourty deep and play Joseph in the box, whether it’s in man or in a Cover 3 scheme. With Verrett out, Compton will be forced to play Hayward and either Lattimore or Newman outside. We therefore expect them to run a Cover 3 scheme and, if so, we’ll attack the sidelines with our tight ends and outside wideouts. If they go for a predominant man coverage, then we will attack them deep with Hilton and Green.

In the red zone, when we don’t run the ball, we expect AJ Green to have an advantage over Hayward and Lattimore in terms of size and we will try to use that to our benefit.

In passing situations, we won’t hesitate to throw in some 4 WR sets as Chris Hogan should have a huge advantage over whoever Compton has as CB4 in this game.

Defense

Kizer is starting this week and we know that he will have a much easier task if Compton gets their running game going. So our first priority will be to stop the run.

Our DL isn’t the strongest against the run, but we have a lot of depth. McGee will come in often to play 1-tech besides Atkins or McCoy and Bailey will play DE instead of Ingram in obvious running situations. With Ryan Kelly out, Compton has no adequate center and that should work in our advantage. Our defensive ends will be asked to not rush aggressively the QB in order to keep containment.

At LB we inserted Davis to give us 2 above average run defenders at the position. Every time Cohen comes in, Hicks rotates with Davis as Hicks is more equipped to cover him in the passing game. We will play also have a safety, Mike Adams in the box. Adams and Shazier will be responsible for sealing the edges while Davis/Hicks will key on the RB.

In the passing game, we’ll run a mix of man and zone coverage. In man the MLB gets the RB, Adams gets the TE and Alford gets Garcon, with Shazier spying on Kizer. Maxwell gets Antonio Brown and he will be asked to be very physical at the LoS. Last year, Maxwell allowed only 23 yards vs AB IRL, and we hope his physical style of play can bother Brown again. Even then, Kurt Coleman will always play deep over Maxwell so that Brown is double teamed. Slay gets Diggs in a fun matchup that has been seen often in the past 2 years in BDL. We'll throw in a couple of blitzes as well to see how Kizer responds to it.

In zone, we will use various types of coverages to confuse Kizer. Our goal is, with pressure coming inside, Kizer will be forced to go out of the pocket and try to squeeze tight throws into zone coverage, and we think given his inconsistent accuracy, we will be able to get turnovers that way.

You got dealt a bad hand Compton. Kizer was atrocious...

Well......he WAS playing with a migraine. Considering most people can't leave their house with a migraine I can't imagine playing QB is a walk in the park.
