RedGold
Alright gents; questions about the FA workout, I will try to get all answered in one post... but bare with me, there's a lot of different scenarios. ERFA Easiest one in the books, If you want to retain the Player, just click the "Mark to Include in Cap" if a check appears, it's all gravy. Cap is auto calculated in the Top Right for these transactions. Just Imagine a check mark in the column for all these players. Kansas City Chiefs Kansas City Chiefs Please give the cap adjustments a minute to update. This sheet is designed to give you a simple calculation to estimate the cost of signing ERFA. You still must post your signing in the League Office Thread. 2020 Top 51 Cap $16,532,923 # Added to Roster 4 Amount Added to Roster $2,565,000 League Office Link All ERFA signings are one year deal at the vet min salary. ny92mike
Vetoing a contract offer imo does more damage. If a team overbids they would be pissed if their contract was scratched for a team offering less. And if we adjusted the overbid to something lower and still give the player to that team then weve just given them more cap to do it again. RedGold
Contracts can be it's own post... so there's a lot to these,,, but pretty self explanatory. We don't want team building up large contracts with low year 1 salaries, sure NFL teams do this quite a bit.. but they also pay for these quite a bit, in this scenario, it doesn't matter all that much if you kill Year 2, Year 3, etc Cap Hits. Sooo their is a built in formula to prevent this, back to back years have to be in a certain % of each other. Now how you make this happen is up to you, Roster Bonus, Base Salary, etc. but you won't get a contract passing without it meeting the certain % (I'm not 100% on the exact number). One more thing before we get to creating the contract. They're 2 types of signings, Resign and UFA. Resign(Resigning a player that was on your team the prior season), UFA(Signing a player not on your team prior). You get 4 Bids per FA Round, How you choose to use those are up to you. 3 is the Max you are able to use for UFA per Round, the last offer is strictly a Resign... BUT if you want to use more than 1 Bid on Resign, You have the ability to Switch any/all of the above 3 Bids to a Resign. Simply change any/all of those to "Resign" instead of UFA. One benefit to this is you get 8% added to your contract offer, this 8% will not affect cap, it is simply a bonus added so that teams that offer the same contract or slightly higher would not beat out a contract of yours. Alright Contracts; Lot of boxes, what to check out. The first things to check out: Average Per Year. A contract will not pass, if the Signing Bonus is below this amount, and the Average for all Year of the contract are below the APY) Contract Length: 5 Average Per Year (APY) $820,000 Signing Bonus: $1,085,445 Alright, so I'm going to use a contract for the same player 4 times, to show how a contract can pass and fail. FA Bid#1: You'll notice the Signing Bonus for this player is $750,000. This is under the $1,085,445 for this player, so that is why this contract is showing Structure Fails FA Bid#2: Signing Bonus is good, why is it failing. Year 1 Cap Hit is $1,653,333, Year 2 Cap Hit is 5,833,333. That definitely doesn't fail within the % so Year 2 would have to be reduced, or year 1 would have to increase the cap hits to meet the % for back to back Cap Hits. FA Bid#3: Exact same contract, I reduced Year 2, why is it still failing? Check out Year 2 to Year 3. That also definitely doesn't meet the % for back to back cap Hits. * See Below Failed Contracts for the chart on how to see which Year is failing requirements Bidding Team: KC FA Bid # 2 Contract Structure Approval Validation Official Pending Salary Cap Enter Contract Information Targeted by Another Team 0 Valid Contract Type Pass Pass Subsequent Yr % Rate 2020 Top 51 -$6,108,610 Select Contract Type (UFA or Resign): Resign Contract Terms Cap Number Validation Pass Pass Average Per Year (APY) 2021 Top 51 $74,535,350 Select UFA Position to display: RB Length of Contract: 3 Preferred Contract Length Pass Fail Signing Bonus Amount Select Player from drop down list APY Amount: $1,483,333 Vet. ny92mike
So the question was asked about resigning players @PR. Sorry it took so long to get this info to you. The short answer is you have a few different options but because these players are Unrestricted Free Agents, there is no process for resigning these guys prior to them hitting the open market of Free Agency, so you'll be competing with the other 31 GM's to retain these targets. In the FA transaction workbook, you'll find two sheets the "Free Agent Bidding" and the "FA Reserve Bidding" both allow you to create contracts in an attempt to land those resignings. Free Agent Bidding - There are big advantages to using this sheet to resign your players, this sheet allows you to bypass the triggers needed using the Reserve bids. There are two methods in this sheet. Within this sheet you have 3 UFA bids and one resign bid. However, you do have the option to convert the UFA bid into a resign bid, by using the drop down list in cell F5 "Select Contract Type (UFA or Resign). Using one of your UFA bids by converting it to "Resign" does give you a 8% increase to your actual bid. It's your best chance of retaining the player due to the 8% increase. Second method is to use the final bid, #4 to create a contract to retain the player. This bid like the converted UFA/Resign bid is dropped into the high bid sorting sheet so no trigger is needed. The discount is reduced to 6%. FA Reserve Bidding - This sheet requires a trigger to include these offers into the high bid sorting sheet. Meaning, that another team or your own team must have a contract offered to the player for these to get included to determine highest bid. The discount for this sheet is 6%. ny92mike
Workbook Navigation Guide I've circled content within the images to show which cells you are allowed to edit. I try to color code these in light blue or yellow throughout all the workbooks. Private Team Roster Workbook (Unofficial or Copy of Official) is designed to assist you in maintaining your clubs Top 51 salary cap. The official team rosters is what will be used to determine your available cap when making free agent bids. 2020 Sheet Using the Obtained & Status columns (circled in red) will allow you to simulate releasing a player from your roster which the cap will adjust the new cap automatically. Depth Chart Not really happy with the layout of this sheet but it does allow you to select your offense and defense scheme, do this action first because changing this information will adjust the positions. Also, note that once you assign a player in the depth, the player will no longer appear in the cell drop down list. Restructure This sheet allows you to create a contract restructure by using the cells to select the player and then entering an amount in cell C4 that is between the current years vet min and the players current base salary. The 2020 Savings (C19) cannot exceed the Restructure Allotment (C21). You'll know you've done it correctly if cell ranges C14/C16 all "Pass" and C17 states "Valid Restructured Contract". Remember not to delete this information until we acknowledge that it has been recorded in the official workbooks. Also, don't forget to post this information, in many cases you can just highlight the section and post it in the forum. This worked out well last year. Extensions Extensions are a bit more complicated than the restructure in that you are including a new signing bonus amount that is calculated into the old contract. You are also increasing the number of years to the old contract and including new base salary and roster/workout bonuses (optional). Order Select player to extend - E3 Enter new overall contract length - E5 Using the drop down list you are provided a range to pick from. Enter Signing Bonus Amount Must be greater than or equal to the player's fixed contract terms located in cell range E8:F10. Using cell range S16:S22 enter the base salary values. Must be greater than the vet min numbers (located left of base salary range) Total cap number (range X16:X22) must fall within subsequent year values located in cell range AA17:AC22, you'll see a "YES" in column AA if done correctly. For year two you have a 140% difference from year one, after that all subsequent years are 30% of the previous year. Team Trade Block These are rather simple, using the drop down list in column F, select the player you wish to include in your block, you can also include additional information such as compensation in column Z. Draft pick trade block Same idea but rather than using the drop down list cell you're using a checkbox to select the pick. League Blocks Player block you can use the top cells to filter by position and team. This sheet also provides the GM hyperlink to inquire about a player using the forum messenger. Trade Value Calc sheet This sheet allows you to view what a trade would look like. The draft picks will show the cost changes to the rookie pool within this sheet but does not account for it in the Top 51 calculations. Where the players you add to your trade will get included in the cap calculations. You can select different team in cell S2, just note to give it a minute to update the change as it's loading the trade partners official team roster info. Remember, that this workbook is strictly to help you guys out with calculating the clubs salary cap, so that you can work out transactions before making them official by posting in the forum. The official team rosters are the workbooks I use to determine the cap for bidding on free agents, etc. Will be posting the FA Transaction workbook walk through later today. Hope this helps. ny92mike
FA Transaction Workbook Navigation Guide. You'll still need to post all transactions you make in the forum as many of these sheets are designed to help you determine the available cap. Waiver Wire Claim This sheet is view only and linked to the main waiver wire workbook, I did include a hyperlink to the waiver wire form link at the top. Practice Squad Bidding I'll be honest this sheet is a frankenstein of sorts. So I'll try to explain. The concept is that using this sheet will allow you to resign your previous years practice squad (PS) players during the same bidding rounds as the free agency. Order Select Claim or Resign - F5 Claim option populates the list of all available PS. Resign only populates your prior year PS. Even though there is an option to signing to Active Roster by using checkbox located in cell F6, do not uncheck this box because during the offseason, all players are signed to the active roster, it isn't until preseason that the PS will be available. Select the player you are bidding on using the drop down list in cell - E8 You'll have the option of a one or two year contract - F9 Enter the signing bonus amount - F10. This will get prorated if contract length is 2. must be greater than or equal to 2000. NOTE: All base salary is vet min, so the only options you have to increase the cap hit is the signing bonus. I'll be changing the remaining times at a later date but you'll have access to see what other teams have bid until 6 hours before the deadline...Kinda a trial using something like PS to see how it goes over. Odds are it will get dumped for a better system next year. ERFA Using the checkboxes will add those players to the pending contracts including them into the cap. RFA Using the drop down cells select the tender type you'll be applying. Franchise & Transition Tags I've still got some updates to do to this sheet, but the process is simple, use the drop down to select the player you wish to tag and the type of tag you're applying. Give the available cap a minute to adjust. Tender Offer Sheet As players are tendered and tagged we'll update the RFA workbook manually. Once added to the list they'll appear in the drop down list to select their name. Order Select Player name - F8 determine contract length F9 Determine Signing bonus amount - F10 Select draft pick compensation if any - J15/16 Base salary cell range T18:T24 Value must be greater than or equal to vet min. Include Roster and Workbook bonuses (optional) Contract must meet all validation criteria to be approved. Free Agent Bidding & Reserve Bidding sheets These are basically identical with a couple changes. Free agent bidding Select contract type; either UFA or Resign - Cell F5 UFA populates the list of all available ufa names in the drop down to select from. Resign shows just your prior year players, changing the UFA to Resign gives you the greatest chance at resigning your own player as it gives a 8% increase to your contract offer. Optional when UFA is selected you can filter the player listing by position. Cell F6. Using the drop down cell, E8 select the player name. Using the drop down cell, F9 determine the contract length. Some may be more depending on player age and grade. Enter the signing bonus amount that will get prorated over the course of the contract. F10 This amount must be greater than or equal to cell F14. The information you select above will populate the beginning part of building the contract, we still have to include the base salaries and roster and workout bonuses which are optional. Base salary range is located in column T with column W&X for the optional bonuses. Important: Cell F24 is what will be used to determine the highest bid, how this works is that signing bonus is weighted heavier than base salary. The roster and workout bonuses are valued the least, so I recommend only using them after you've settled on a contract amount just to boost its value a little more. squire12
@ny92mike Possible issue with the reserve bidding sheet. The contract length option (drop down ) for the bids after the first 1 only reflect the option that the first player contract length. If the first reserve bid player has a 3 year contract, all the other reserve bid options for contract length will be 1-3 years. Putting a player with 4 or 5 years contract length will not reflect that option.

It didn't got to my attention because most of my FA are YR:5, but I put it the only one with YR:2 in the first slot and it happened.
