NFL to try new onside kick rule for pro bowl

If you’re down multiple scores with 2 minutes left it should be horrible odds to get the ball back. If it’s any easier an offense will go right back out against an exhausted defence.

why should a team play like hot garbage for 58 minutes deserve a reprieve that makes it easier to fluke their way into a victory? Making the onside kick anything more than a snowballs chance in hell is pretty dumb imo. You had 58 minutes to keep the score close and couldn’t. Boohoo that it’s hard to steal one with next to no time left. Be better.

Football is a turn based strategy game, not a wacky silly rooty tooty participant-ribbon “lets give the losers an easier time” extravaganza.

Cant wait for them to line up like they are gonna go for it, try to draw the defense offsides for a free play, take the delay of game, and then decide not to go for it after all and let their oppoents have it

With a commercial between each.

Honestly, "a team attempts to completely abuse the rule in bad faith" is probably the best way to test the rule.

If an extremely talented offense against a disinterested defense can't retain possession with regularity, it's probably not going to be a problem in a non-exhibition context.

So we're OK with just totally killing the very idea of a "surprise onside" play?

Sidenote - I've watched pretty much every Patriots game for the last 15 years, along with hundreds of others. Thousands of hours of football. I don't recall anyone, ever getting injured on an onside kick. Not once. Not saying it didn't happen, but I don't remember one.

I see defensive players get hurt on pick plays all the time - and yet the league seems OK with that.

The 4th and 15 rule is dumb, teams will be able to just line up and essentially just throw a hail mary. If it's picked? Who cares, it's basically a kick-off. And there's always the chance of a penalty or catch.

4th and 15 is stupid. Why can't it be 4th and 25? Its not their ball. It belongs to the other team. Make them have to do something difficult, not just kind of hard.

Also, are we going to be regularly determining games based on defensive holding on a fake 4th and 15 play

Just what we need, more power to the refs!

Agree, 15 yards is too easy in the PI realm. Aaron Rodgers be making them like clockwork.

Bad idea which means it will likely be adopted.

This is a stupid rule and favors teams with high powered passing attacks.

Couldn’t have said it better myself
