Michael Thomas - Offensive Player of the Year!!

Recommended Posts

It was announced yesterday that our Saints' Michael Thomas won the 2019 offensive player of the year award.

Thomas is only the 2nd receiver to ever win this award (Jerry Rice has won it twice, in '87 and '93), and the youngest among receivers.

Thomas's award impressive for many reasons, but to name a few:
For starters, he had a phenomenal season after getting his "payday." How many times have we seen a player hold out, get their payday, and have an off season. Well not this guy!! Quite the opposite, in fact.
We won this award with the aid of not 1, not 2, but 3 quarterbacks. Of course, Drew Brees tossed him nearly 2/3 of his catches, but Teddy Bridgewater is on the hook for 50 of them, and Taysom HIll found him 8 times, too.
The season stats are sick! 149 catches, 1725 receiving yards, and an average of 107.8 yards per game! He also rushed the ball 1 full time for a whopping -9 yards :)

Next up, he should easily have the most receptions in the first 5 years than any Wide Receiver ever. The mark currently stands at 481 receptions (Jarvis Landry) while Thomas is at 470. With 1 full season to achieve this new record, Thomas only needs 11 to tie the record, and 12 to beat it. So there's actually a possibility he will break this mark in week 1. If not week 1, I'd virtually guarantee week 2.
